I have a 04 passat 1.8t makes exactly same noise but not as soon as I turn car on about 9min of driving it low pressure light comes on and noise starts about 20 min of driving could this be the same issue on video?

If you kept driving and the engine seized up is the engine toast?

That clatter is tricky. I changed mine for a new one and it still rattled UNTIL I dropped the pan and pick up screen. I didn’t even have to change it . So it’s 50/50 on these car with the rattle

Could this be an intermittent problem? Mine had an intermittent low oil issue. Then 2 days later. The turbo blew.

Changed out my tensioner and it is still making bad noise popping and clicking, any idea on what it is?2003 passat

Hi follow your videos, very nicely done. I'll be doing the timing chain and tensioner , but I noticed the top of the head where cams are and such is very slugged up, so going to go a step further and take the head off and have it machined while off the engine. I'm kind of worried the oil pump screen is more than likely stopped up, do you plain on doing a 2003 Audi A4 1.8t oil pan removal in the near future?

Can I run the car with this noise or it will stuck at some point ? I have exactly the same noise I was crying when you started the car I'm having the same noise and the engine runs normal but i have the that big noise , so noneone here at Houston wants to take my car to fix it everyone says your engine did and I say well is running normal no smoke or something just that noise if someone knows someone at Houston that can get my car fixed let me know here please thanks I already changed by myself my timing belt water pump and belt tensioner but I'm not professional as the men at the video to take off the heat cover and change that tensor on the back lol thanks help please

He is absolutely right. I purchased a 2002 vw passat ( same color actually). I drove it maybe 5k and that engine grinding noise started. Took it to an import shop and paid roughly $680 to replace the oil pump. Noise returned in a week. I looked into it myself and found a forum (passat world?) that described the problem to a 't'.. A friend of my father's ended up replacing the cam chain tensioner and that fixed it. However, about 2k miles later, it jumped timing ( $1,100 fix). I think that was at about 150k miles. This car is high maintenance, no doubt. I'm currently battling another 'Low oil pressure' alarm that happens after 20 minutes of driving. I bought an oil pressure sensor and am replacing that in the A.M. Well, see how it goes.

Just bought an 03 passat wagon 1.8t yesterday ran fine for the two test drives I took and once I took it home this same thing happened to me and the car shuts off won't start. Ended up having it towed to a monro that's 8 minutes from where I broke down and also live. The dealer that I bought the car from is fixing all the problems for me and paying for it. Thankfully. Because I could not afford fixing it after dropping $3,200

I have it all apart and the tensioner on your video that broke is not broke on on mine if it is worn would it still make the noise and how can I tell if it is worn, it looks like it's pushing back up well but it does leak oil out as I push the plunger down is that normal or a sign it is bad?
