Len, they JUST had the transmission done!! I do have that endoscope ($17), and that isa good idea, now GET THIS... Once that little girl heard that there was no compression, IN THE VIDEO, she said it sounds like the string behind the thing. If we interpret that, is she talking about THE BELT behind the cover? NO WAY!

@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos The timing belt broke is what went wrong lol. Got sold a bad kit with a misaligned tensioner pully. So far no one has been able to figure it out. Has cam and crank sensor signals. Successfully swapped another ECU. No codes. Been a couple weeks of headaches

When the belt breaks, there will be some valves that be open (which means that for the top of the engine, time will come to a sudden STOP), but the bottom half of the engine, time is still going. So when one of those pistons come back to the top, and if the valves on that cylinder is OPEN, when they should be CLOSED, the piston MIGHT hit it, and bend it. Now even though an engine is an interference engine, many times, it does not damage the valves.

@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos thanks I had not thought that through. But I can see if the cam stopped with love down then valve would be open so no compression. So next question why wouldn't you pull valve cover? And confirm lob position and do compression test before replacing time belt? By the way love the video and speed of diagnostics.

Easy question... FACT 1 - We are 100% positive the timing belt is NOT turning the cams FACT 2 - Knowing FACT 1, there is no way around it, we have to remove the timing cover, at which you do not have to remove any of the valve covers, which is a job in itself if you saw our video on the valve cover gaskets. FACT 3 - If the engine starts, with replacing the belt, as stated in FACT 2, we just saved A BUNCH of time because we didn't remove the valve covers. The ONLY time you have to remove those covers in this situation, on this engine, is that if the engine does NOT start, so then, we will be removing the heads. In a compression test, you have to let the engine spin a few times to get a reading on its "compression" stroke. If you can't get a reading on it's compression stroke, you have no compression. You CANNOT get a reading on any other stroke (intake or exhaust).

This Friday we will be replacing the belt. I'll be sure to look into that further.

It could have a leaking water pump. They say when you do the belt to change the water pump and all the seals when you are down in there.
