Bought 7 weeks ago. LG C2 65inch OLED in early Jan 2023. Best tv ever. Perfect for movies & high quality tv series. I come from a television production background so I was looking for perfect reproduction of what the creatives intended and LG C2 does this!!! Works well in a moderately bright room. Coupled with a good surround sound system (5.1 AV receiver) and you don’t get a better experience. I couldn’t be happier.

With these newer generation RGBW Oled panels, is color better preserved at higher luminance levels (less reliance in the white sub pixel)? Also worth upgrading from an LG C8 purely for image quality?
@pioneer2321
@pioneer2321 2 года назад
No the higher luminance the colour is diluted and washed out.
@marcuscole8796
@marcuscole8796 2 года назад
Yes, all FOUR white subpixels are getting brighter ... also these responsible for generating red, green and blue. There is only one limitation: red, green and blue are generated by using a colour filter on top of the white subpixels ... this colour filter absorbs about 50% of the light coming from the OLED-subpixels ... hence any increase in brightness increases RGB luminance by "only" 50%. Example: If peak brightness goes up 100 nits ... white goes up 100 nits, but colours are going up 50 nits "only". Nevertheless the C2 ofc is capable of noticeably showing brighter colours compared to the C1 ... precisely 20% brighter !

Seems like the lower the C number; the better the deal.... I got in after the c1 was sold out. The C2 was sold out in my state. Managed to hunt one down ... 1,600 bucks, 400 more than the C1, 400 less than the C3. I have the C2 running thru a Marantz 1509, with lower end Polk 5.1 speakers. Probably wouldn't score too high in the lab... But, in real life, in my dark man cave; for my needs, this is the sweet spot! The C2 is a steal ... if you can still get it.

@marcuscole8796
@marcuscole8796 2 года назад
As OLED tvs are already almost too thin ... the C2 seems to gain some physical robustness ... which at least I am appreciating. Besides from that the G2 has a thickness of 25mm ... but ofc noone complains about it due to it belongs to the "Gallery Series". Basically I do not care at all as I am always looking at the tv from the front .. hence I can't notice any thickness ... even for the thicker LCD tvs this "issue" isn't one for me for the same reason.

@marcuscole8796 2 года назад
There are not enough reviews out yet ! ... so far the LG G2 is the build quality, picture quality, gaming and convenience reference ... but Sony A95K and Panasonic LZ2000 are important and maybe even better candidates. "Better" of course always depends on the individual priorities and requirements ... there is no "better" per se ... "better in regard of what" is the important keyword/question here ;-) Regarding build quality and picture quality the Sony and the Panasonic may turn out equal or even better ... but none of them will be able to compete re gaming and convenience with the G2 imho.

Thanks ; as excellent as it is I see no reason to buy it instead of s95b , do you see a reason ?
@marcuscole8796
@marcuscole8796 2 года назад
- Build quality - Accuracy in game mode - Lack of a polariser ... leading to elevated and washed-out pictures with some ambient light in place ... plus the risk of getting a reddish tint on the entire screen - Option for deactivating DTM in game and other modes - over 9 years matured tech and tv vs a first year tech and product (with high potential but many teething problems) ... to just name the the most obvious ones The S95B is a non-finished product ... it always is a very high risk relying on a first year product.

Hey guys wonder if someone can help I have somy 65 A8H, already broken in past 200 hours. Decently bright in HDR/DV . looking at a 77 c2. Is it that much better of a tv. I know motion and brightness would make a difference for sure
@marcuscole8796
@marcuscole8796 2 года назад
In fact the C2 is another (a higher) category of a tv ... it : - has a 40% larger picture (77" vs 65") - is a massive 200 nits brighter in HDR (842 vs 643 nits) - is a massive 100 nits brighter in SDR (422 vs 316 nits) - has four HDMI 2.1 ports vs zero - uses the full standard Dolby Vision vs the measly "Low Latency" ("player-led") version - offers a "Filmmaker Mode" - offers a optional dynamic tone mapping feature - motion, upscaling and gradation are similar to the Sony A90J ... hence better or at least equal to the A8H - uses the newer 2021 panel (so-called "evo") resulting in less energy consumption, less temporary image retention and lower risk for burn in - has massive gaming support with all 3 types of VRR ... A8H: zero - input lag is up to 2 times shorter (5.2ms vs 10.5ms w/ 120Hz signal) - has a better remote with mouse pointer and scroll wheel - has the option of showing 21:9 and 32:9 aspect ratios when using a pc - has a picture-in-picture option The list is not complete but mentions the most obvious and important advantages...

Thanks for such a great review!! I don't get why your review on the G2 found it to peak at 911 nits whilst the C2 only delivers 743 nits -shouldn't the panel be the same?
@marcuscole8796
@marcuscole8796 2 года назад
No, there are two major differences: 1. the G2 has a large heatspreader installed ... C2: none 2. the G2 uses the very latest panel "EX" whereas the C2 "only" the 2021 introduced so-called "evo" panel The panel alone allows for 10% higher peak brightness ... and the heatspreader (based on e.g. the Panasonics differences with heatspreader) for about 25% ... which totals to +35% more luminance potential of the G2. The difference in peak luminances is more obvious in "Cinema Mode" ... Phil uses "Filmmaker Mode" here ... which is more accurate but dimmer. Rtings measured in "Cinema mode" with a 16:9 full screen real video scene: G2: 1,165 nits C2. 842 nits ...which calculates to the expected +38% in peak brightness

@marcuscole8796
@marcuscole8796 2 года назад
@@hicnuncfilmworks3516 My pleasure, thanks ... glad it helped :-) A general recommendation: Phil is a fantastic and competent reviewer and calibrator and I agree to every word coming from him regarding his analysis and findings ... but there is one single measurement I always check out first and to some extent is overall the most relevant for me: Rtings "Real Scene Highlights" for "HDR Brightness". Reason: all these 2% and 10% window measurements are mainly meant for and used by engineers allowing them to review and perform their development and quality control work ... and ofc calibrators for their calibration process. As I never watch small white or coloured rectangles in my living room ... and as the screen is not entirely used ... these are not relevant for normal use imho. This Rtings measurement is by far the closest to my movie watching I have seen on YT ... I'd just wish they'd also measure it for Filmmaker Mode ... usually they use "Cinema Mode" only ... which is ofc fine and already sufficient :-)

@@marcuscole8796which one would you purchase ? C2 or g2? Is it worth extra ? Thanks
@marcuscole8796
@marcuscole8796 2 года назад
@@Sandsmell I already purchased the 77G2 ... it arrived about 40 minutes ago ;-) A big YES ... the G2 is definitely worth the very small (or even not existing) price premium over the C2 ... both 65" (C2 & G2) are currently around 2,600€ at trustworthy dealers where I live ... so it's definitely a no brainer here ! The reasons I partially already mentioned in my first post ... these are: 1. 38% higher peak brightness (as already being measured ... and being technically comprehensible due to: heatspreader +25% , "EX"-panel +10% ... totalling to +35%). 2. heatspreader ... allowing for much higher brightness (see above , +25%), more relaxed ABL and ASBL, less intensive and faster disappearing image retention, further increased burn in risk, elongated longevity ... all due to hotspots and uneven temperatures in the panel are massively reduced. 3. latest "EX"-panel vs 2021 "EVO"-panel (which drives the 10% brightness difference in LGs marketing for "Brightness Booster" vs "Brightness Booster Max") 4. 5 year warranty ... including the panel !!! As said there isn't even a price mark up were I live ... but I would even have spend 500€ (65") more without hesitation to get these advantages ... but ofc this is something everyone has to decide for himself ... if the wallet allows for deciding :-)

G2 is much better. C2 is more like midend. If you want cheaper, get a C1 or G1 intead of the C2 because it's not really better than those, G2 is the absolute best LG can do with WOLED so far.
@TueenTuo
@TueenTuo 2 года назад
I think that the C1 has better picture quality ,e.g., contrast, depth, gradation, and 4K image quality/processing. The things that matter to me are better on the C1, but the C2 does have better color volume over all else. It's a better value for the money, and I prefer the heavier, sturdy build quality of the C1 as well. All this BS hype circulating around the Ai Gen-5 processor and WBE "Evo" EX panel this year was not a thing last year, and it makes sense in multiple ways (not in good ways). From what I can tell right now, unless you like to throw around money, you should get a C1 or have one already. Don't go buying a new TV every year for the sake of your "other room." As far as I can tell, LG needs help with the C2, and why not give them that extra boost when they're in need. The C1 is cheaper and selling like hotcakes at the moment -- this is good for LG. The only reviews for the C2 and G2 on Google are fake, and the sales seem to be struggling significantly compared to last year, C1 getting in the way or not. Anyway, colors on the C1 appear more natural and realistic, and this can barely be fixed when discussing color on the C2. Any black crush or gamma issues on the C1 can be fixed, but some details are obviously conveniently missed for the sake of semantics. The ABL is less noticeable on the C1, but it can come down to opinion ... . The C1, in my opinion, has better motion interpolation (on or off), i.e., less artifacts, but they're similar enough -- stutter is essentially the same. You may get an overall 5-7 percent boost in brightness, but the 20% claim is reinforced marketing -- it's mostly through dynamic tone-mapping. Even then, there is no 20% boost. The DTM option is far more aggressive this year, but I suppose that you can say that this is a win for the C2. The upscaling is a little bit better for SD content on the C2, but HD content and above looks nigh-on identical when it comes to upscaling alone. I can go into the reasons why I believe this, but I have tested the televisions in person. I have also read plenty of reviews (some being dishonest in various ways) and seen numerous side-by-sides, too. I suppose that it could be marketing ... or it could be personal preference/graph readings of certain metrics, e.g., shadow detail, gamma, and APL. To me, I have an opinion, and I also look at how the television appears as a whole. These metrics mean little if I can make the television look good, and oftentimes, these metrics do little to make the television actually look better, etcetera. Regardless, it is just an opinion; however, it's not like I am likely to change anyone else's stern opinion either. Even then, the C1 looks better to me and does certain thinks better (BFI included); this has been my conclusion from the last couple of months. Certain things must be considered, but I understand that reviewers can miss things or not find them a big deal. (There's no need to stick your head in the sand.) The televisions are essentially the same, other than what I have mentioned here. And no, this is not justifying anything! This review will not change it, but all the power to you, I suppose. I can go on, but who cares what I think. Try to enjoy your television without allowing someone -- them or you -- to make you think that it's not good enough, intentional or not. If someone wants to disagree or finds this "opinion" blasphemous, then have fun, but it will not accomplish anything. It's a reviewers job to be honest (to some degree) and sell products; some cannot. Anyway, have a good day, and please enjoy your TVs. Don't fall for LG's marketing ploys, and keep yourself steady. New things are around the corner; they are not always better.

I agree about that reviewers are honest to some degree , they only want to talk positively about new products ,, I never saw them say this year model is worse than last year ,,, but even then I can still have some benefit of them : for example you say it yourself last year x1 needs calibration to fix out of box crushing black ( no way I can do it ) nor I care about accuracy measurements and not to mention motion ; all what I care about is brighter picture with no problems out of box 😉 and I see no reason why would anyone buy these things when a better technology is in the other room with similar price .

@@fullhd5277 How could a new model possibly be worse than last years ? ... in the worst case e.g. for saving money at max. they just need to put the old stuff into a new case ... and that's it. It will be the identical product quality and performance ... but no way it will be worse ! @@fullhd5277 Not in real life ! ... every change (in materials or supplier, production process, panel control software) requires manpower and investment to get it in place ... it is costly to implement changes ... it doesn't matter whether it's for good or for bad. That's why you are losing money at first ... prior to getting a benefit from an installed saving ... believe it or not, exactly this was one of my jobs: calculating break even points for planned savings in production, whether it finally leaves a real saving and how high that will be (if the projected sales volumes turn out to be correct). Assuming quality automatically goes down for whatever reason ... as you claim ... is nonsense ! ... yes, it does through wear of the used equipment ... but this takes years and even decades for some specific operations.
