Definitely, he never overplayed either, just right 😎🤘 He wasn’t on the “last tour” for the same reason Jake E Lee was replaced in Ozzy…certain female 😉
Ozzy said in an interview with Rolling Stone as he responds to hopes for another Black Sabbath reunion: Not for me. It’s done. The only thing I do regret is not doing the last farewell show in Birmingham with Bill Ward. I felt really bad about that.
@@Stargazer-px7fw I saw them in 1998 with all 4 original members and it was the best show I have ever seen and heard. And I have seen a whole lot of bands. I was born in 73 so I didn't get a chance to see them on their first run but the reunion shows were spectacular.
Complete abomination! Grunge drummer(a pathetic one)on the album. And another worthless grunge drummer on tour. Vinny Appice should have done the album and the tour since he was actually a part of Black Sabbath
When playing with BS, Ward was real virtuoso, but he could play brilliant dirty rock beats as well..Time was one of trademarks, the other were passion and creativity.. One of the best on drums, he was so important for Rock Drumming
I remember. He used to ride his bike and deliver papers around the neighborhood in the late 80s. No joke. He was doing whatever it takes to stay humble and sober.
Love always hearing and watching Bill Ward play. He is so organic and his orchestration skills are always top notch. There is no other heavy metal drummer who can play like this man can..
Bill Ward was the first time I really heard Drums in music. Grew up in Big Spring Tx, all we had was KBYG, no fm, it was rocking robin and the hardest song i hear was Joy to the World. Then I walked into a friends brothers room and heard Black Sabbath Iron Man on a Stereo playing LOUD, never heard LOUD music except the school band and I had to have that. Got a job, a stereo, and the Paranoid album within two week, never looked back.
@@uweoehlke yeah he wasnt very healthy.still it be nice if he couldve at least took a bow one last time with the band.but if bill is fine with how things ended its not my place to criticize
Bill ward is the most underrated member of Black Sabbath, while Ozzy, Tony and Geezer are the ones who gained the most popularity, i believe that Bill ward is one of the best drummers in rock/metal history, he is certainly my number one, Black Sabbath had a lot of great drummers in their long career, but when they had to play live songs from Bill ward era, one could feel it's just not the same, he's a dynamic drummer while all the other drummers in BS were more technical, i prefer dynamic drummers like Bill ward and the late Clive Burr, i wish to thank Bill ward for all his albums with BS and his solo albums, some of them are really great, God bless him!
Definitely the most underrated founding member, but I’d argue that Tony Martin and Geoff Nicholls are even more underrated. The latter was literally hidden away from the stage lighting at every show he played…
When I finally saw Sabbath (original lineup) a number of years back, Bill Ward was the star of the show! Powerful and precise . . . couldn't take my eyes off him. He's like the Buddha of metal drumming.
That was lovely. Good for Mr Ward, for Sabbath, for the Listeners and the lovers and fans like me worldwide! Excellent production and presentation from the BSP metal machine!
met this man in 80-81 at a bar in So Cal. He was living on the cash he was earning with a small paper route. Still, he was Bill Ward. Sabbath wasn't Sabbath without him. Saw him 12 to 15 times in the seventies, and his kit was always changing, evolving. The Paranoid lp didn't leave my turntable for most of 72, every night with the tone arm up and continuous.
@@coreydm1969 that's what I understood from his own mouth. he is still living in the same area, doing better and props to him for getting thru some really tough times.
If you can find a copy of it (mine's on cassette), Bill's "Ward One: Along The Way" album of 1990 is AWESOME. Ozzy does a track or two, and Bill's vocals are just killer. He was waaay under-rated as a writer/vocalist. I think Ward is on a sparsely populated level, with Mitch Mitchell, Ginger Baker, Keith Moon, and Bonham.
I saw Sabbath in 94 and again in 97 and 99. In 97 the sound was shockingly different- suddenly it sounded 'like' Black Sabbath, although they were underrehearsed. By the 99 show I realised it wasn't Ozzy that really made the difference - it was Bill.
Great story for the legendary Bill Ward. I am glad he turned it around in time. Shows the man's perseverance. I attribute that to his being a founding member of Black Sabbath.
When I was growing up and first getting into music I was blown away by the playing of Bill Ward and John Bonham. Years later when I discovered theyre both from the same city I was amazed. And then when I found out that Judas Priest and Black Sabbath and half of Zeppelin and a lot of others were all from the same city I could hardly believe it. I mean what the hell was going on in Birmingham in the 60s !? That place was churning out talented musicians like Milwaukee does with beers
My hats off to Bill ward after 25 years of addiction he finally came to terms with himself and gave up the poison sauce and drugs most of us have tried 🙃 and were able to walk away from it all some struggle harder than others some need help from rehab some can go cold turkey, but we all need a network of friends and family that loves us and supports us and can also come to terms with dealing with our bullchitt we put them through, God bless everyone who has made it and those that keep trying, and most of all God bless our family and friends for putting up with our selfish demeanor, to our health and long lifes with the ones we love, godspeed everyone 😀
I totally want to see him get his playing on new Black Sabbath recordings and would still like to see him performing with them too. Realistically we’d get the best performances when they are prepared for just one or a short residency. Then of course hbo does the documentary and concert footage so Bill and the guys get a reasonable paycheck to supplement their social security lol
Great drummer ! Fan since '70 when i was 13. Last bit i read was from awhile ago. Seemed like he was retiring (before 2012). i believe the interview was from his place in Santa Clara or something. Bay Area native myself.
Bill the legend ward I put him along side john bonham, admiration for kicking the drink, easier said than done, hopefully we will get more years out of bill and the rest of black sabbath God bless.
Bills driving drum style pushes the music along in an orchestral way that's very special. There are few that can put the raw emotion into thier drumming that Bill does. Ian Paice comes to mind, but a different style.
@@elinino5275 Not surprised. In that business, you're bound to be surrounded by absolute scumbags. Gotta have your shit together at all times. I met Iommi by chance at the Bolshoi in Moscow back in the summer of 2012. Really affable guy. Had a nice chat while I was waiting on my wife and he was seeing the sites. Sabbath was doing a show in Moscow that week, if memory serves me.
They are so great. Pioneers of Hard Rock / Doom Metal Music. As a guitarist and bassist: I love Geezer & Tony Iommi = True Rock Stars. This band was more talented (their musicianship) then people give-them credit for. Love Black Sabbath.
Bill had a feud with Ozzy some time ago, with the two exchanging statements at each other, but they later reconciled when Ozzy had a series of health issues in 2019.
Bill, is and has always been the coolest dude. When "RJD" calls you (Bill Ward) a gentleman? That's mighty high praise! Let Love Rule and be at peace Bill..
They treated Bill like crap, lit him on fire, under rated him, berated him and he always forgave. They took him for granted. In Geezer Butler's book, 'Into The Void' he wrote that Bill was always the 'Fall Guy', that's the way it was, it doesn't make it right.
My heart goes out to Bill for not being bitter towards his brothers/bandmates and forgiving them for what happened in the past and just being grateful at everything. What a blessing this man is. Truly a wonderful gentleman.
Unless he had a seriously FUCKED UP contract he would still have been receiving residuals from all of his work with Sabbath. He would have had all the pants he wanted.
I saw them on the reunion tour. Bill had already lost a few steps. There was really long breaks between songs. Ozzy would just squirt people with a water gun to fill in the gaps. It was kind of bizarre. The 2 new tracks in the album, one uses a drum machine lol. On the flip side, I saw Heaven and Hell(Black Sabbath) and the entire band was on FIRE!
Basically they decided for the upcoming tour that Ward would only play 3 songs at each gig and they’d get an outside drummer to do the rest of the show, and Ward didn’t wanna do that so he quit…
He kinda helped himself. He got sober and thankfully still had the talent and ability to play drums at a level good enough to rejoin his band. Getting him back was kind of a no brainer since nobody sounds like him. Sabbath needs him
He left on his own. They didn't kick him out. He was too messed up to continue. He left mid tour actually . Kinda left them high and dry. He later apologized though. He may not have survived had he not stopped. Touring is hard work
@@gerryorangefan6150 yep the other 3 had equal pay equal percentage, and ward had low pay like he was a hired gun so i don't blame him for saying f*** off to them
