As someone said this is culture, this is tradition, this is young people honoring their culture, their tradition. This is what's lacking here in the USA, culture and tradition and even more the lack of respect. As a veteran I'm, at times, ashamed of what this country, the USA, has become.
Just want to share some info with you guys, since I already typed some information in another video. The four singers in the video are all from different minority groups in China. The lady's name is Yang Ji Ma, a Monpa girl widely known as a "Goddess" in China. Besides Yang Ji Ma, the other three, from right to left, are Hu Si Leng (Mongol), Ah Lai (Kazakh), and Tuo Yun Fu (Chinese Muslim, or, Hui). They each used folk song styles from their own ethnic groups and the performance was simply astonishing. They called their harmonic group as "Tribal Group." Unfortunately this was only a temporary collaboration and this is the only song performed by "Tribal Group", as of today.
I am not sure how many people noticed this detail, but I personally find it quite interesting. There is a low, repeating sound like "Omanibebe" starting at 3:06, which sounds a bit like a man's voice. To my surprise, it was from the girl, Yang Ji Ma. More interestingly, the sound is a mantra in Buddhism, "Om mani padme hum" (feel free to Wiki it). Reciting this mantra is believed to be equivalent to spinning a prayer wheel. That said, you might have a different, divine feeling by listening to this popular song. This idea apparently came from this talented young girl, as she might be the only one out of these four who knows this mantra. There is a reason why she is known as a "Goddess" in China.
Simply put: This is what life is capable of... Through humanity, reasoning and the power of a force unimaginable we are privileged with the gift of sound thus the gift of voice and music... we should feel so humbled as to be given this transcending gift and realize how fortunate we are to experience the splendor of this particular sound. All that can be said is simply... thank you...
Thank You for posting this video, for I'm a 55 plus music fan mostly western pop and I love my Chinese origin music, I've been searching for the best voice around the world. I truly believed this is my goal. 谢谢
Someone please tell me if any of them have come out with an album especially the girl. This is truly beautiful music and they all have such privileged voices!
