Now that the storyboard has been explained. If you catch it, Mahoraga has been adapting to Sukuna's slashes by sending his flying limbs at Sukuna as they get cut for direct hits. Every single time Mahoraga hits Sukuna with an attack, its often right after Sukuna cuts him. Basically a counter attacking style. Sukuna catches on as seen here 1:36 Which the moment when Sukuna starts faking his attacks. The whole sequence here 1:52 is just Sukuna bullying the hell out of this man by intentionally faking an attack and then sending an actual attack, and he does so at random intervals. This forces Mahoraga to start adapting to the *fake slashes* This glorious sequence 2:09 is exactly what you think it is. Mahoraga, confused and probably lowkey frustrated, starts shadow boxing, trying to predict when's the next slash gonna come. And Sukuna there casually moonwalking. (Correction: Big Raga was actually tryna deflect the slashes like he did at the start of the fight, mb) The frame between 2:09 and 2:10 is the moment Mahoraga finally adapts to Sukuna's *feinting* Yes, he's adapting to a freakin *STYLE* 2:12 to 2:13 Mahoraga uses his first feint attack and successfully hits Sukuna. And Sukuna mad giddy cuz he managed to teach a divine being HOW TO LIE.

For those who are confused as to why big raga was punching the air, he’s trying to hit away sukuna slashes (because he is able to see them)

1:15 is probably the rawest moment in the whole fight. Both are staring down on at each other while LITERALLY flying through the air without moving a muscle.

1:49 can we just appreciate how smooth Mahoraga regenerated with the swing of the wheel ringing out?

2:04 to 2:13 You can notice here, Sukuna is feinting his attacks and once Mahoraga learns to do the same, Sukuna had a look of perverse satisfaction in Mahoraga doing so because Sukuna in this moment had corrupted a divine being and taught it how to lie. I learnt this from a storyboard analysis, this fight has so much depth that makes it enjoyable

1:14 what an absolute show of dominance, just regenerating in full after that tanking that attack lmfao. The additional scenes really make it seem like Sukuna was about to get obliterated if he didnt figure out the ability

1:55 in this moment you can see mahoraga adapting to sukuna fighting style with sukuna not landing blows because Mahoraga is already anticipating them. The part where sukuna is hitting the smooth criminal is essentially him forcing Mahoraga to anticipate and block moves he hasn’t even done yet.

Pump fake, after pump fake, after pump fake. Sukuna was mixing his ass up😂

I see it now, Mahoraga was always adapting and using strategies, launching his severed limbs and parts of his body in order to land hits on Sukuna as counters every time he was slashed with dismantles. Realizing and adapting when Sukuna was faking slashes to fuck with him and his adaptation which in turn made mahoraga fake an attack and landing a hit on Sukuna again.

I love this version. It showcases how much is actually going on.

Something minor about the entire Shibuya Incident is an extremely awesome touch from MAPPA: lights dimming and going back on to illustrate the effect the fight's having in the city, despite it not being realistic. Not even the whole building would black out in the event of a massive fault like a train literally going through several floors, but as an artistic choice is very much a good one.

Makes this even crazier that gojo fought stronger versions of both at the same time💀💀

I love these scenes because they’re the definition of “show don’t tell”. Nothing is outright stated but you understand how Mahoraga is slowly adapting to the slashes and to Sukuna’s feints

This fight is so good fully fleshed out, witnessing Sukuna experiment on Mahoraga was cool asf and added alot of weight to his great knowledge of jujutsu. He said it already, he's encountered to phenomena similar to mahoraga. It's cool how smart Sukuna is and he's not just a powerhouse 'I destroy everything' kind of villain, at least not all the time.

This sequence definitely needs to be used in a filmography / story crafting class. There's enough isolated story elements interwoven into the fight you don't need the rest of the series to explain it. Except maybe who they are and why they're fighting.

For those confused about the stand still scenes and why sucking is stopping before attacks at about 2:00 into the fight The storyboards show that Sukuna had started pump faking slashing and he was stopping attacks to confuse Mahoraga as to when a slash is coming or not so Now the mahoraga punching air scene is an extended scene of sukuna not throwing slash yet mahorga ecpexting slashes because sukuna was in attack position. The reason Maho was is attacking when he expects a slash and not dodging or blocking is because he is using his body as projectiles and using the slashes to his advantage whenever sukuna cuts him up he uses his body as projectile him actually landing the punch in the train station was him adapting to the pump fakes and learning when to attack

Let’s be honest, that’s what Naruto vs Pain attempted and I now appreciate it kinda more. It was a bit ahead of its time and needed more polish but they basically did the same thing

The fight shows how part of Sukuna’s advantage against enemies in general is fear. This is the only enemy so far to have absolutely no fear of him, so it’s badass to see it immediately confront Sukuna mercilessly after every attack, which you can see throw him off guard a little at the beginning of the fight. Since more fundamental fears cause more powerful curses, it makes sense Sukuna’s cutting power is so powerful, separation being an even more fundamental concept than something like fire, which is why Jogo was no match either. Some form of separation is a fundamental aspect of most pain and fear.

The reason mahoraga is punching the air like a doofus is because Sukuna has literally gotten into his head after that first fakeout 😂 during their exchange right after you can see sukuna pretending to throw slashes and faking mahoraga out with them, it's like a version of boogie woogie only nothing is trading places, it's just the same level of mind games being played. That's why sukuna is just flying backwards with his hand out and mahoraga looks like an idiot punching the air. Because sukuna is literally not doing anything at all and mahoraga is just blocking nothing, completely unsure of when the next slash will actually come. If you watch after that mahoraga pulls the same fakeout on sukuna. I LOVE THE DETAIL IN THIS SHOW!!

Some will call it bad animation but I cannot explain just how much I love the degradation of the art into smearing colours with little detail. It shows you just how much you'd actually be able to make out as a bystander in Shibuya as you watch on in complete horror as these two near deific beings fight and destroy the entire area with a complete disgregard for human life

All the confusion I had about the fight is gone now
