Let me explain why I think attacking SL should be forwarded to other materials. Ren liked Haru romantically but Haru never (or at least never realized it) until later on when Ren hit puberty. They aren't related, they just live together as roommates coz Ren only trusts him and likes him enough to listen to his requests (aka basic tasks like eating and showering) and if I remember correctly Ren was against the idea of being officially adopted by Haruko, it seems like Ren always knew he had feelings for Haru. Ren isn't really a late bloomer he started puberty at around 15-16 but because he was always malnourished or refused to eat he never grew until later during s2, even Haru started noticing it and I remember he said spmething like "you haven't been picky with food lately". I don't ship them in s1, they were really cute and I don't blame someone like Ren depressed and alone to hang up on Haru who was a hardworking nurturing person. It was more like Ren having a first-love kind of crush over Haru and Haru doesn't take him seriously at all he just keeps treating him as a child, saving him and taking care of him as an unwanted abandoned kid. Once Ren hit puberty in s2 and acts more like an adult things started to change which made Haru REALIZES that Ren is actually really into him in that way, making him jealous and throwing a tantrum when he sees him with women..etc, and even after that Haru was against being physical when stupid Ren was making a huge fuss over it, Ren probably felt not in the level of the women who were experienced and came into Haru, he though that was the only reason why someone active and had dated many women before would turn him down this many times, so Ren went to ask a person who looks and behave with women like Haru, someone who is clearly experienced and is a host like Haru was, and that man didn't hesitate to take advantage of it, Ren only wanted to learn for Haru (I get it, it's that age when people get hella thirsty and he couldn't see any possibility of Haru refusing if he wasn't a virgin) Ren seemed to get everything from Haru, Ren was jealous so Haru stopped recieving gifts from women or flirting with them all before Haru even started liking Ren, he just really didn't want Ren to stop eating or getting depressed. Ren had major trust issues and constantly questioned his worth to Haru so he kept on telling Haru if he doesn't want him "sexually" then that means he doesn't like him back at all.. all that plus more extra drama Ren made (Ren is smart, he noticed that Haru was so angry when he found out Ren was doing sexual stuff with that host man, even yelled at him for the first time, so Ren used that against Haru to make him jealous and forces him to basically either sleep with him or he's gonna find someone else yk) yet Haru never took advantage of that and insisted on "waiting". Haru is such a good written character as an older lover, unlike other Asian BLs. Now Haru did give up to the temptation and did touch him but that was after all the drama and manipulation he was going through because of Ren (for example, Haru was scared and worried that Ren will sleep with some adult who will take advantage of him so he tried to convince him to stop, they had a heated argument and Ren stormed out to that host man Natsuo who was ok with having sex with Ren, that man called Haru and made him even more stressed out by saying something like "if you wanna keep Ren around, this is having the opposite effect) this really made Haru frustrated and told Ren if he's gonna sleep with a man just to prove he's an adult enough, he doesn't want him to come back to their apartment. Haru is just like Ren he's not perfect but like if you watched the show, you'll see how hard puberty Ren made it for Haru, and I think Haru really made a great effort and I'll give him the benefit of it as he controlled himself even when Ren used popular predators' statements like "age is just a number/I'm almost 18 anyway/I'm more mature than my age..etc" a predator will use that against the minor to victimize himself, but Haru did not, he genuinely loved Ren and the only times he was weak was when Ren was about to cry or saying things like "if you don't want me, i get it, i'll give up on you" and that's why I like his character. After about 2 years (in the manga only) Ren was at college and looked, sounded, and behaved differently and more adltlike, he was huge almost as Haru, and I heard they started to be officially and exclusively lovers after that, but I didn't continue the manga coz I'm more a fan of the lovey dovey and Ren's coming of age and realizing his serious gayness drama thingy. Overall, I seriously think Super Lovers disscused some serious issues and made good messages for queer and even non-queer young people. That the person that loves you for real will do more than sex to prove that, and that as the oldest in the relationship, you should never take advantage of minors (including aggressive manipulative kids like Ren) because they MIGHT be confused and can't consent due to the hormones..etc. Don't get me wrong, I like Ren, he's flawed and a realistic example of young gay people, but he was hella smart and decisive to get Haru to sleep with him (I guess horniness does scary things to people) I forgot to add that when Ren graduated he thought that was it and he's finally an adult and Haru will be ok to have sex with him but even after that Haru was against it coz he was tiny (still growing) and he was still not exactly 18 like the rest of highschool graduators.

I like it because it shows how age is just a number I do not expect you to understand because you don't understand love well you understand just the love that the couples most be 1 or two years apart
