So the MV. The story is, they meet each other after a long time. But then the guy notices the ring on the girl's right hand. He asks "Are you married?". And the girl said that she bought it for herself, it's on her right hand (an engagement ring is put on the left hand). But the guy notices that she lied (she touches/fixes her hair near her ear whenever she lies). She asks if he lives alone, and he answers, "no". The girl looked. But then he said he only has a cat, because it's lonely to be alone. Then when he's going to leave, the girl mentions that the store will close soon because there are rarely any customers. And right before he leaves, he said to the girl "Next time we meet, put the ring on it's true place." The girl is startled. Then the guy adds, "Congratulations". To which girl just nodded. She then said, if they meet again, the ring will be on her left hand, then he leaves. After he leaves, the girl just wonders if they will really ever meet again, and if she should've just taken off the ring and hid it inside the drink when they talked earlier. Basically, it's a story where past lovers are united after a long time While the boy is still in love with her, the girl also with similar feelings, the girl moved on once the guy left and got married, but she didn't want him to know so she lied but was caught lying. She thought that she should've submerged it in the drink so that the boy couldn't notice her lying (but the boy knows her so well, he knows that she touches her hair when she lies.) So here's what i'm guessing the song is about: The story is about a couple who had either broken or up or were torn apart due to natural circumstances (you can see this in the way the couple talks about how fast the day is going on both in the video and in the lyrics). God permitted a short time for the 'lonely couple in the dark sea' and in that short period they made a promise to meet again. It was a fairytale kind of promise. The singer responds to the monogram of the stars above as if searching for the other person, responding to that person's voice but again they're too far away. Time goes on, their hearts and lives change but then again, no color is easily dyed white. "Our overlapping pulses teaches us the sparkle in our lives"; here the singer states that their short time was not a waste, that even after receiving some other love, that feeling would not vanish. They had left something in eachother, an 'unsolved fairytale'. The singer decides to finish the unsolved fairytale by admitting they'd probably never see eachother again, coming to terms with it. However at the same time, in an ironic acceptance of the fairytale kind of promise, they'd meet after thousands of years, which is obviously impossible. However it was always that kind of promise. This shows that even though they'd probably never meet again, the promise they made still left something in their hearts. The fairytale is the embodiment of what is completely ficitious and impossible, but also something that people dream and yearn for anyway. It's a beautiful but unreachable thing. The couple's promise was a fairytale promise, something impossible but made with childlike yearning and hope. This is why there is actually a comma in the title of this song: "Fairytale,". The promise is unfinished, but the singer finishes it not by meeting the other person, but by realising that yes, it was a fairytale promise. It would never be fulfilled. By breaking the promise the singer fulfilled it and therefore was able to move on. "Even if you had noticed the promenades of the weeping cherry trees, don't look over your shoulder, 'kay?"

some powerful shit, i hate how a lot of people dont find songs like these where they "REALLY" have meaning to the song, ive heard this before but never looked on the english subs and this hit my feels

I kept thinking she would promise that when they would meet again and she would break-up/divorce her husband for the ex-boyfriend. Now I see she would go on with the marriage despite still being in love with him. How bittersweet.....

For people wondering about the story or the source, there is a oneshot manga that was bundled along with the CD which depicts this story. A translated version can be found online, and it's only 27 pages so I recommend you give it a read.

What I understood is that she said she'd put the ring on the left hand because wedding rings are put in your right. He said at some point that if it wasn't such a ring it should be on her left, so she's saying that when they meet she won't be compromised, or at least she will act like she isn't. But it somehow seems like they both know they won't meet again...

If you paid attention to the lyrics and the bubbles, this song is simply about "past lovers" who met again by chance.What's bothering me is the girl, I'm not entirely sure of what's with her at all.But this is pretty much about how "there is no color easily dyed white". Yeah.
