it's a bit confusing, given that the Diaclone line was re-marketed as the Transformers outside of Japan (among other toy lines), and that this is basically Optimus Prime being brought back home under the Diaclone brand. I guess you can call this coming full circle.

Perhaps the most epic improvement: It can actually hold its gun now! It'd be interesting to see some of the other Car Robots revisited in this style, with the need to disguise them as automobiles gone. I hope there'll be a Powered Convoy followup

If Optimus Prime (aka Convoy from the Super Robot Lifeform) crosses over to this far future universe he will meet the Battle Convoy Mech(and it will be grey black) and its pilot revealed to be Ginrai or in this case Ginrai's counterpart. Optimus talks with Ginrai and asks how did humanity created their own transforming technology Ginrai simply tells the technology was created after they discovered a new energy source showing the fuel and optimus immediately recognises it as raw energon. Optimus asks Ginrai if his Mech Battle Convoy has any malfunctions while in robot mode, Ginrai answers Optimus that all the mechs cannot hold robot form for too long and must always transform to avoid malfunction wasting the fuel but their enemies the Invaders Warudos dont have such an issue. Optimus suspicion was correct and the technology even if advanced for combat, humanity didn't created the technology or the means to process the raw energon and simply explained to Ginrai that such a thing is like a human holding raw plutonium without any means to protect themselves from radiation poisoning. A battle begins Optimus is injured severely his body cannot function so Ginrai installs Optimus matrix and consciousness into the Battle Convoy mech acting as the Mech's Ai(giving color to the mech) and both begin a journey back to Diaclone HQ to change the course of the war with the aliens standing their way. Hows that for a potential crossover anime plot?

Imagine if Optimus could split himself into these multiple vehicle modes like Battle Convoy... He'd be a one-robot army!

It's so hard not to see this figure as a new Optimus Prime. Like I'd be obsessed with this design if it showed up in a new Transformers Anime

It's lovely, to be sure, as are all the pieces in this modern line, but after purchasing the first several sets, I came to the realization that if I continued, I would have to give up collecting Transformers, He-Man, and pretty much everything else I collect to afford it. The little mech suits alone were over 40 bucks a pop! Great stuff, but prohibitive in price.

So this is what came to be known as Convoy/Optimus Prime.

Transformers R.I.D. 2000 or Car Robots as well as Armada or Legend Of The Minicons are starting to become 20 Years Old and you know, the G1ers and Bay Boys can continue to have their Cake and Eat it too, but It really is time for Anime Fans of the series like myself to shine again! This Convoy figure literally looks a lot like Armada Optimus which is Amazing! I just Pray this means a Anniversary release is coming soon. Hasbro you better be listening!
