Keep it up!!! Add oil!!!
@FidesStarrHall
@FidesStarrHall 5 лет назад
或者「跟麥明思學用英語回應”十優狀元是不是神?” 」可能更貼近你既用意,因為用左「,」有更多感覺係: 跟麥明思學回應問題,她是十優到底(用英語回答上)是不是神?。 但因為”不是神”是反問所以有”我覺得她不是, let’s see”。

Grammatically her English is correct, but I must say her choice of vocabulary is rather peculiar. I don't think it has anything to do with her laws' degree and No, this is certainly Not the English people's way of speaking.

Thank you for your sharing, Finnie. Undoubtedly your usage is more colloquial compared with Louisa Mak's version. You sound more like a grammarist. There's nothing wrong for either side. I support both. You are right in pointing out judging is of no use. Some points to follow though (for academic discussion only): I would say Louisa Mak's version is rich in "legal flavour". 1) "Beneficial" and "detrimental" are words commonly used in law studies, in particular real property, contract and agency law (e.g. detrimental reliance by a third party on an agent or a certain party suffers no detriment in this contract) There's a famous theory in law: "a contract must be either to the benefit of the promisor or to the detriment of the promisee to constitute consideration" so and so. The ordinary understanding is something is "harmful". Yes it's true but I suspect due to Louisa's constant exposure to these legal terminology she could pick these words easily. It simply shows her legal education background is solid. I don't think one could erase such kind of knowledge easily. Rather I would treat this as her unique selling point as a Miss HK winner. 2) Tbh "superficial" and "shallow" are more or less the same: both refer to the lack of serious thought. en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/superficial en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/shallow I would accept both during an interview. 3) I agree with Mr Tsiqsin "brand name effect" is irreplaceable. "Reputation" is a neutral term referring to a generally held belief about something or someone. Unless she specified a "good" or "bad" reputation "brand name effect" would still be the best usage here. Again given her education background it's likely for her to have acquired this term from her peers. Another term I would suggest is "halo" effect even it refers to a person more than an institution. Given the time constraints for an interview her reaction was above standard I would say. It takes time to understand what she meant but compared with other interviews hers sounds special.

麥這段話中的superficial,意思並非你所說的"膚淺/shallow",而是指着重外表、只看表面(相對於內涵)。她是說香港人並非只看外表(港姐選舉),亦會看教育背景。但亦可說是只看表面,因為他們並非基於麥的言論而是因其學校名聲作出有關判斷。解作"膚淺/shallow",並不恰當,她並非說香港人"膚淺"。另外,佢前一句說自己young and green,下句still prone to failure,指仍易於犯錯,failure不是時時也解作失敗,要看context。

@rebchuchu1
@rebchuchu1 3 года назад

I am sure that you are a very good teacher. You are full of patience and know what you are talking about!! Having said that, this lady 麥明施 the way she speaks English which is not that sophisticated to us in England. Yes, we can understand her what she means!! 我覺得就採訪呢個問題同場合,佢嘅audience喺普羅大眾,如果可以用簡單直白更加生活化嘅高頻詞彙表達相同意思,觀感會好好多咯。美國荷李活/英國都唔少高學歷藝人,並且喺當前佢地嘅專業(演藝界)成績斐然,人地都唔會咁講嘢嘅。麥小姐劍橋10A講明佢確實喺聰明勤奮嘅multitasker,但喺呢段嘢我覺得有啲故作姿態, she didn’t have to talk like that.

@eh1575 5 лет назад

We can say that this word is often on her mind. 都明白你所講,Louisa選擇的diction不算非常常見。 至於內容方面,感覺Louisa都冇係訪問中講到自己個學歷本身有幾巴閉,聚焦點都係香港人點樣睇佢既學歷姐。話時話,講開高學歷港姐,前港姐任葆琳都係哈佛畢業架! Finally, thank you for your support, EH!

香港人可解英語水平差,是香港人太注重人家什樣看自己,怕說錯文法,衹懂捉人錯處,但自己又不懂英苵語,香港最喜歡句輿句之間說一句英語,英語不是我們母語,就算苵國人亦會錯文法,若是太差是可以接受的。

Yes, exactly! It depends. My English is so basic, but I understand that word lousy, to describe some of Hong Kong people like this girl in RU-vid, in Cantonese is 嗱西 ,actually, do you speak English ten minutes per day? Do you watch English TV? Do you chat with your friends in English? If your answers are negative , so, why do you think you should have a fluently English spoken? As a matter of fact, I am not English, not a native speaker, my mother tongue is Cantonese.
