名古屋城本丸御殿は、慶長20年（1615年）、尾張藩主の住居かつ藩の政庁として建てられました。
近世城郭御殿の最高傑作といわれ、城郭では国宝第１号指定の日本を代表する書院造の建物でした。
昭和20年（1945年）米軍の空襲により惜しくも焼失したが、江戸時代の図面などをもとに正確に復元を進め、平成30年（2018年）、絢爛豪華な往時の姿が蘇ったのです。
本丸御殿の復元には木曽ヒノキが使われています。
木曽の山林地帯は、かつての尾張藩の領地で、将来の為に森林保護や伐採抑制政策を進めていました。
まさに、時を超えてそれが役だったことになるのです。
上洛殿の欄間は、富山県の井波彫刻の透かし彫りで彫られ、京都の職人が色付けしました。
焼失前の写真等を基に7年かけて忠実に復元されたものであります。
また、上洛殿襖引手には七宝が施されています。
焼失前の旧本丸御殿の障壁や天井には、狩野探幽ら狩野派の絵師によって絵が描かれていました。
障壁画は、各建物の用途や格式に応じて技法や画題に変化をつけていました。
本丸御殿の復元は、現代の名工たちが細部に至るまで技巧の限りを尽くし再現されたものです。
復元された本丸御殿は、現代の名工の技を目にすることができる価値ある場所でもあります。

Nagoya Castle Honmaru Goten was built in 1615 as the residence of the lord of the Owari domain and as the domain's government office.

Before the fire, paintings of Kano Tanyu and other painters of the Kano school were painted on the ceiling and barriers of the former Honmaru Goten.

In the restoration of the Honmaru Goten, modern master craftsmen have recreated the building with the utmost skill and attention to detail.
