Thanks. In many ways, you are describing a form of cultural shock. We all need proper preparation and adjustment when we move and live in another culture. The primary conversation topics in Hong Kong, e.g. "How much I have paid for my Rolex.", "What is the ranking of your school?" are not suitable here. Many dread they are no longer the boss of the department just because they were the boss before. I made a few videos on that too. You are totally correct on your analysis on the environment of Hong Kong in the 1980's and 1990's which made the advancement of Hongkongers easy. Most people, Hongkongers or not, would not been as successful if they were not born in the right time and the right place as in Hong Kong in those two decades. Be grateful for what we have. Don't look back.
I am so glad that someone totally understand what I was trying to elaborate. Unless you know both Hong Kong and Canadian culture together with people otherwise you won’t be able to see it thoroughly. Thanks James!
when contemplating of settling in a new home one should be prepared to accept the principle of CULTURAL ASSIMMILATION be able to provide/adapt unable to conform with the new surroundings/environment that would be indicative to yourself Canada is not a blessed country as expected always follow your heart not intuition
