Most people treat hk is a place to make fortune or earn money , once they think they have got enough, they will look for chance to emmigrate to Canada by whatever way available to them. Investment is a popular way. Their ultimate home is Canada, not hk. In fact, among them, a high pct are those immigrants who have got their citizenship and returned to hk in the earlier years. Now with the new harsh law imposed by China, it looks like a catalyst for them to flee hk and go back to Canada. In short, hk is just a transit place to stay and make money, Canada is their ultimate place to stay.

@Sora L if HK people dont buy it then the property market will fall.. canada need a growing economy. Also if you buy a property you actually pay property land tax. So they do contribute to the community. Locals pay land tax and they use local schools and libraries etc.. but HK people pay land tax and dont use the local resources. So it's actually better for canada to sell to foreigners. They pay taxes but dont use the library/schools/police/fire department/ etc... they dont use up Canada's resources but they put money in the economy and contribute to supporting local schools/libraries etc.. they also help pay local police/fireman/street cleaners salaries with the property land tax even though they dont use their services since they are in HK not Canada. For most Canadians it is actually better to have HK people invest in Canada and not live there.

@@SimonCU Trump once proposed to Denmark to sell Greenland to US, a small country knows to say no to a super power. Boasting Canadian economy has many ways. Selling Canadian things to aliens is not a good way to get money to support all the services you mention. Canadians have to work hard, creating more jobs for its people and then the gov will collect more tax money to cover all expenses the gov has to spend for the good of Canadians. Selling properties to rich aliens drives price up like hell, do you want to see property price as high as Hong Kong ? May be you do, if you have already got a detached house or a luxury condo in Vancouver downtown. Look at those young people just coming out from college. In the past, they can get a job and then a small mortgage for a condo to live on their own . Can they do it today ? Most of them still live with their parents 10 or 15 years after college. What they earn today simply can't enable them to afford a tiny living space in Great Vancouver. On the business side, almost all big companies were sold to US, have the US owners created more jobs for Canadians. May be they do, sorry if I am wrong...
