It is worse actually. Because the monk first tells the monkey to kill the dragon and then, 2 minutes later, admonishes Wukong for trying to do so. I wish I could understand Chinese and read the original novel because, based on the translations I read and in pretty much every single anime/movie/series based on Journey To The West, I never got a feeling the author was trying to say "look how dumb and stupid this monk is." SPOILERS HEAD! SPOILERS HEAD! SPOILERS HEAD! SPOILERS HEAD! SPOILERS HEAD! SPOILERS HEAD! SPOILERS HEAD! SPOILERS HEAD! SPOILERS HEAD! SPOILERS HEAD! SPOILERS HEAD! SPOILERS HEAD! the rest of the book (and most of the other series) is pretty much what you just seen here - someone is about to kill the monk, Wukong kills the guy, monk banishes Wukong. And when Wukong does not kill the bad guy, the bad guy comes back and kidnaps monk. Rinse and repeat.

Yeah he was a badass powerful and then they nerf him so badly

@@ren-sama4203 technically, you can blame the original author for that. He goes from an invincible warrior only a Buddha can take down to having to beg Guanyin for help to defeat a mosquito. Heck, after all that ruckus to get his golden cudgel, more often than not he will simply forget all about it and say he is weak under water.
