This is a idol member brand ranking in Japan? ILLIT is only strong with general public because of Magnetic they released. 100 million streams in 11 weeks speaks for itself. This situation reminds me of Keyakizaka46 when they released Silent Majority. They were not big with idol fans, they became big with general public. Idol fans can become loyal no matter the quality of the song, general public can move on if the song is not good enough. But it feels Polydor Records under Universal Music Japan has big faith in ILLIT to become something else as they barely sign with idol groups in general. BigBang and Blackpink were the only ones and they are now replaced by BoyNextDoor and ILLIT. Polydor Records has artists and bands strong with streaming aside from Sony Music artists/band (Creepy Nuts). Alexandros is a big hit with streaming for example. When you look at the idol member brand ranking IVE is not strong with streaming in Japan. They have yet to achieve gold which means 50 million streams for any of their songs. RIAJ removed silver a long ago which only had 10 million streams. While this idol member brand ranking is cool looking at it's even more achievable to be nominated for song of the year like grand prix award at Japan Record Awards. What general public listened to at the moment and the judge will decide who will win song of the year. TWICE was nominated in 2018 and NewJeans in 2023. No other K-pop group has been nominated for grand prix award I can think of in Heisei and Reiwa era. Both Polydor in Japan and Billboard in the US want ILLIT to become a versatile group who can do K-pop, J-pop, hip-hop, electronic and R&B. Billboard put pressure on Belift Lab staff to lift restrictions on the members' creativity when they asked the members about songwriting, composing and production involvement. Compared to other Hybe groups rap vocals are not great. That is Hybe's weakest link especially for their girl groups. But Minju's rap vocals got swag and Iroha was surprisingly rhythmic when she performed What is Love cover with rap vocals, she stuck out from the crowd. I wonder why they never experimented Iroha on rap vocals in R U Next, she sounds good. Rap vocals can sound forced but not in Minju's or Iroha's case, they sound rather natural. How much natural it sounded for Lisa and Jennie or G-Dragon and T.O.P does it sounds for Minju and Iroha. Their vocals are not similar in any way, but they are league of their own. I think that is important and I don't expect Belift Lab to find some songwriters to write rap lyrics, this will mostly come from the members in order to hit natural range. As long they have contract with Belift Lab they are not allowed to work on title track.
