TheOddJocks Russian Knights lol come on bro! People like them because of the size and noise Su-27's produce that's all the black eagles are the bad copy of the RED ARROWS and their aircraft also have the afterburners surprise surprise... BAE hawk T1 is small not that loud aircraft without afterburners which can't do tail slide, slow speed high alpha pass, cobra and other similar maneuvers and still the pilots managed to put on FANTASTIC display. People like you who don't know anything about flying shouldn't be commenting! Red arrows have been called "worlds best aerobatic team" and they hold this title till now if you like it or not.
*Mr*Exterminator* your missing one thing, the red arrows don't need to trim their aircraft every second like the Russian Knights do also when did the red arrows ever use flares at a display? never that's when. Another thing is that the hawk has a hotas system standing for 'hands on throttle and stick' meaning all the controls needed for flight are on the throttle or joystick making it easier to fly. Su-27 doesn't have any of that. Yes the red arrows may have skill I've also met one who used to be the leader but their prime has gone they used to be better when they were allowed to fly lower. But the CAA screwed all that over. Also the black eagles are actually fun to watch there's always something going on in the display, never a quiet moment and I've only seen them use afterburner once in their display which was when one of the Kia T-50's did a pass by another doing a high alpha pass.
*Mr*Exterminator* I know about flying more than you mate, putting my opinion somewhere doesn't tell you anything about what I do and don't know. You may not agree with my opinion but you may as well see why I have it.
the aggressive splitting from the formation at low level for the landing creating an awesome winds sounds , one by one created a sudden sounds of winds "wough!" "wough!" "wough!" it was a natural sounds between a flying metal and the winds
No sure what's going on, but the display didn't seem half as tight as we are used to here in the UK. Not sure what the Chinese take is on air safety, but the UK is a real nanny state.
surfinbird84 Gotta admit I think the display is getting boring as hell now, too much "Nanny State" interference as you put it. Don't get me wrong I was in the RAF for 22, so not slagging off the RAF. But Jesus it's getting cringy now, they need to get back their mojo
When 'incidents' happen, the rules tend to have been exceeded, so the survivors usually (not always) learn not to do that. Telling them not to fly so low as to lose a wing on a yacht's mast, to retract the undercarriage before the plane is flying, or to loop so low the entire formation hits the ground in formation BEFORE these things happen does not work, or they would not have happened. The pilot's own common sense may have, but did not, prevent those things happening to the Red Arrows and the Thunderbirds. But they did happen, so, where's a nanny state involved?
Not sure of that. They usually have more of a mix. I've noticed they fly right over the crowd too. Don't see that normally. They keep their distance whenever I've seen them in the UK for safety reasons. Would love it if they did fly over us more, but never gonna happen.
The "smoke" is created by injecting a dye into the the jet exhaust. Released by pressing 1 of 3 buttons. Each jet carries sufficient dye to generate 5 minutes of white smoke and 2 minutes each of red and blue during each display.
That is how you film a fast jet display. Grew tired of photographers believing that constant high zoom is a professional skill, nice for screen captures but never conveys the experience of speed.
Everybody will say that about there own airforce pilots, I can say that the RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force) has the best pilots in the world but I don't, they all have what it takes to fly a fighter jet, years of training!.
