Finally a dil that says no to the toxic in-laws.

Why are some of these mother-in-law's treating their daughter-in-laws like slaves and why did the daughter-in-laws even take it for one second

Different culture and respect for elders. China is melting down right now with younger generations getting fed up with parental expectations hence all the talk of people cutting people off (It's happening here as well but family structures aren't as rigid)
@norarivkis2513
@norarivkis2513 6 месяцев назад
Most of these are set in Asian families, I think? There's a cultural implication in them about the way mothers in law and daughters in law behave to each other, that's not really done in the west. But that's part of why I find them fascinating. Different environments and different cultures offer different frameworks for stories. Apparently, one of the tropes in these little morality plays is "modern woman turns the tables on her cruel mother in law."

I believe these mothers in fiction and in real life have an Oedipus complex,

@@norarivkis2513 This! Yes! I love insight into other cultures, idk my family travelled a lot. There's this weird concept I run into in people that the entire world is western culture. Maybe "other" frightens them?
@norarivkis2513
@norarivkis2513 6 месяцев назад
@@catsncrows That could be! I'm also thinking that maybe, with the names being used in these stories, and the casual English language style, it could make some westerners feel weirded out when the cultural tropes aren't what they expected. But after watching a few of them, you'd think most people would realize that the cultural tropes *aren't* usually western, and just roll with it. :)

This started off fairly typical - using the daughter in law as a slave and free labor ("you have to follow my orders' give me a break), but I like Ashley a lot, and this did take a rather unexpected turn. Good one!

It is so funny how mother-in-law thought she could threaten her daughter-in-law by saying her son won’t move back home unless she can move is shock that her daughter-in-law doesn’t care that husband is gone 😂😂😂😂😂

All these stories all have the same premise. When a woman marries she belongs to her husband and his family like property. Might as well be a dog or a chair
@flamelily2086
@flamelily2086 6 месяцев назад
In some cultures, that is the norm, especially in India, where the new bride moves in with her in-laws and is often treated like trash. In the Asian culture, women have no status at all until they become mil's and then they perpetuate the cruelty by treating their dil like rubbish.
@dragonfliesnh4204
@dragonfliesnh4204 5 месяцев назад
@@flamelily2086you're right. These stories are written in an Asain country and this is part of the culture where the stories are written. These stories are based where they live, not in any English speaking countries.

Mil gives a lot of orders but she certainly doesnt behave like a wife and mother herself. Mil shows up at dils home expecting to be treated for thamksgiving and cancels her dils plans to visit her own parents and demands her dil obeys her orders?
@rollothecat2010
@rollothecat2010 6 месяцев назад
DIL said the MIL thinks she is the Queen of Sheba. At any rate, MIL is bossy and expects to run everything and interferes in DIL's life and plans. The kind of person one does not want in one's life.

Seems like the alimony should be discussed before the divorce is finalized.
@dragonfliesnh4204
@dragonfliesnh4204 5 месяцев назад
Some countries they can discuss it after the divorce and have a certain amount of time on when they are able to sue them. Some are a few years after the divorce and some are also a few years if they find out about an affair after they divorced. It depends on the laws and process on where someone lives.

I sense some writing by auto correct. I have major problems with autocorrect stomping in and changing correct words to incorrect words. Which is why I am not a fan of it.

I noticed some of the VA's have a hard time with words with 'Th'. They either pronounce those words with just the T, or instead of saying 'the' they use a D like 'Duh' instead of using the 'th' sound. I figured they're having a hard time with the english pronunciations.
