I didn't think it made any sense, giving him anything. He couldn't have gone after her earnings from caregivers as he didn't support his wife at all. Their finances were never shared, if they had been He would have seen it every year during income tax filing. He couldn't have gone after the inheritance because that's not marital property/money. He didn't have a leg to stand on, to contest his mother's will, not with all those texts he sent Sidney; it really wouldn't have held up the divorce much at all, and the idiot would have still had his job. Actions have consequences, and that moron got his in spades.

The mother left the wife the house in her will. She left her life insurance to the wife's parents. And, she paid the daughter in law $1M over 10 years to take care of her. The only reason that the wife gave Rhett $500K was so he'd sign off on the divorce and not make any further claims on the estate. So, he got a lot of money to GO AWAY. But he came slithering back a year later after having blown through every cent he was given.

Edit: Oh, definitely odd, but it could be connected to agreeing to low income housing. Lots of areas do that. Many areas do reduce property taxes for the elderly if they've owned the property for an extended time and the property value (and thus the taxes) have increased in the area.

He has the gall to start projecting onto her & making accusations as if he ever cared for OP & his own mom. I kinda hope after OP blocked him & he was yet again left on his own he was forced to go to the shelter. At some point he manages to get enough money through some struggling that he moves away & struggles elsewhere cause he knows he has nothing left where he is & it's no use trying to run into his ex & her family even if he tries to run into them to beg.

Even though the character didn't ask to be paid, it was so nice that her mil did that for her. Also paying her $100 hourly is very helpful since the op had to quit her job to take care of her mil. Not everyone would do that and many couldn't do that jof they need two incomes comibg in to support themselves with home, bills etc. I don’t know the percentage of single I cknes vs doubke but some struggle without multiple income sources. I was very surprised she split the inheritance but it was a very smart move. Even if she wasn't a professional care giver service, she definitely gained the title of professional in my opinion. ❤

the only good thing Rhet ever did was bring home Sydney to his mom. he was a horrid son and husband, but she was a great daughter in law. i would absolutely not have said a WORD to him about my pay, but... keeping quiet about that might have led to a lawsuit later, so... probably a wise decision. incidentally- for anyone else who may be in similar situations and in a country where cheating matters? i 100% guarantee you that if this was a real case, that Rhett had multiple affairs: he married the woman to care for his mom, and was never around- he was getting his fun elsewhere. so that could have saved her from a lot of the marital asset division. still, she was smart to just hand over money and get the house and land

Seriously too much fantasy. If he's not in the will at all, it's completely null, not worth the paper it's written on. He's also got a very strong case for undo influence, meaning it's possible he could get a solid chunk of the money his mom paid her directly.

Nope. A valid will can name whomever the person wants as a beneficiary. If they die without a will everything is divided according to law.

@@susanhansen1290 Yes a will can name anyone as beneficiary. However, if a close family member is not in the will AT ALL they can contest the the will and will almost certainly win. That's without even getting into the very solid case for undo influence.
