I suggest using texture since it's way easier and can also transfer to game engines. Also this is the way genshin impact does it. (You unwrapp the face, then draw a gradient from black to white on it, then control the shadow with it)
isn't what Genshin impact did was just Bake the Normal Mapping to the Model and Bam!, instant Results... Din't do much Research into the Genshing inpact way xD, but thats i all heard...
@@pikachufan25 nope, no normals, they used textures to drive the shadows with the rotation of another object. Meaning they cut down on light mapping and all those costs
Also I've noticed that in the video the hair is casting shadow correctly onto the forehead which cannot be achieved if light is not casting shadow. I'm wondering how this can be done (maybe just simply paint the shadow?)
