This project introduces wonderful shops in Tokyo that are "closely tied to the local area", "still not well known", and "doing something interesting".
This time it's “PROV”
A 6-minute walk from Harajuku Station. Pass through Aoyama Street and go to the back alley of Propeller Street, where many street shops line up, and you will find the signboard of PROV.
The owner, Mr. Yoshimatsu, who was devoted to skateboarding since his student days, experienced the local atmosphere at a skate shop in the United States when he was working in buying, and opened a skate shop in Harajuku with the thought of "Can't we do that culture in Japan?".
Inside the store, in a warm atmosphere with a wood-grain wood tone, there are places where young culture is hooked, from the artwork of famous overseas artists to ZINEs of people who are active locally.
Dime and yardsale are now world-renowned skate brands, but they have been selected from the time when they were nameless at PROV. The depth of connection and trust relationship can be said to be a part that cannot be felt elsewhere.
Recently, a rider from yardsale in the UK came to Japan and held a POP UP, and a female DJ unit representing the youth generation, a convex and concave, and a skater who is also active as a skater, temporaryalex, etc., invited the hottest DJ right now and held a music event. The contribution to the Tokyo street scene is immeasurable.
The staff of PROV support the store in their own way and have become a skate shop representing Tokyo. They will continue to "PROVE" to the street scene as their name suggests.
