These are terrific videos, with some very interesting research. But when you make more, can I respectfully suggest that you spend a little time at the start showing people the end result and explaining how all the parts will fit together. That would help get everyone oriented before you dive into the detailed work.
Hi! I am currently binging your fantastic videos, thanks you for taking the time to produce them. Can you explain the point of the polyethylene piece/panel between the shoulder straps please? Thanks, Scott
Thank you for your comment. The polyethylene piece was used for a core to hide the gap between sewing margin of shoulder straps and middle of the back panel. If I sewed it with only a fabric part, the shape of sewing margins of shoulder straps would have appeared on the surface because the margins were thick.
Haha! Thank you! I really investigated about backpack load reduction methods and released the results as research papers. I’m glad if the contents satisfied you.
Very nice, exactly what I was looking for. I'm building a modular yoke system for a hunting lumbar belt. I want to be able to remove the rear straps and add different packs where the straps attach. Some small packs for day trips, some with an internal frame and large for over night. Look at Marsupial Packs, my design is similar but not an exact copy. My lumbar belt is set up for the gun range as well.
Thank you for your comment. If shoulder straps and back panel are exchangeable, they can demonstrate their performance whenever users use any pack bodies. And I think that MYOG is the best way to realize the gear specs that match user’s body shape or taste of fitting.
@@BackpackResearcher exactly my thoughts. The back panel/pack just replaces the back shoulder straps that are used only when the lumbar belt is in use without any pack
Please make a full backpack tutorial , or a bag insert tutorial ! - I live in tokyo and need work tools that i cant seem to find other places . Thank you !
Thank you for your comment! Now I’m editing the tutorial video of making bag body that I used in my hiking videos. Please wait until released. And the bag detail is released in my Instagram account “nentawk”.
Great video, second time I'm watching it probably not the last. I am designing my own backpack att the moment and will definitely incorporate some of your design ideas. Is there a purpose to the curve where the shoulder straps attaches to the lower portion of the back panel? or just a design feature? also how necessary are the aluminium bars? isn't the plastic sheet sturdy enough on its own?
Thank you for your comment. The curve of the shoulder strap end did not depend on engineering, but just my preference. Then, regarding the panel core, if you want the back gap for ventilation, the panel needs stiffness in the vertical direction. If you use only a plastic sheet for the panel core, it might be bent when you put heavy stuff in the bag.
WoW! You are really good at this! I got really inspired, what is the hardness of the foam? You use polyurethane for the harness and polyethylene for the Lombard part?
Thank you for your comment. Shoulder straps adopted two layered foam for the core. And regarding the hardness of foam, I have already replied for someone’s question in shoulder strap making video. Please check the video! You can also know how and why about it.
I'm trying to design something similar, i was thinking of a smaller bagpack with a little curve around the scapula, would that be useful in terms of ergonomy?
Thank you for your comment. I don’t know your concrete design. What is it aimed at? The pad shape and thickness have some effects; load distribution, making a gap for ventilation, less interference with upper arm motion, and etc. And a preferable design should differ its purpose. Regarding the load distribution, please check below as a reference for the pad design. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9ZBaBVIg874.html
Friend, there is no need to melt the cut edge of the Velcro tape with lighter. Velcro is woven in the way so its not fraying along the perpendicular edge (unlike webbing). Its fraying only along the long edges and it is held by proper dense weave and PU coating n the wrong side. I am the gear designer for 15 years, also I visited the hook and loop factory and Ive seen the machines that make hook and loop
Thanks. As you mentioned, it can tear horizontally depends on cut. It actually occurred when I was making. So, I did that treatment resorting to a sure means. Today, I asked a sample maker about this. He said he doesn’t do that. But I asked a person who is in charge of production management of a factory, and he said it does heat cut velcro for the purpose of both cutting and fray stopping. So, you can decide to do depending on whether you care about it or not.
Wow, you're beautiful, you're an artist, the way you work is really perfect, can i get the pattern for the backpack, thank you very much, I'll really enjoy watching you do it, I learned a lot
You comment encouraged me greatly. Thanks! Regarding the patterns, I haven’t released them, because I don’t want them used in commerce. Instead of it, I will advise if you have a problem for your making.
So interesting! Thanks for sharing. Am thinking of making a small backpack for daily use for laptop, the total load should be less than 3kg. Can i use eva foam for the bag straps? What do you think?
Man I'd like to follow up your tutorial but I know nothing about tailoring / sewing.. is it possible for me to follow up on your tutorials and what are the basic essential tools required to?
Thanks for your comment. I show all making process for each backpack component in the videos of the DIY/MYOG playlist. So, if you do as per the instructions, you should be able to build an ergonomic backpack. Regarding basic essential tools, It depends on process. You had better check each chapter in advance. The tools often used are as forrows: ・industrial sewing machine for heavy fabrics ・fabric shears ・thread clips ・cutter knife ・marker ・sewing clips ・awl etc.
@@BackpackResearcher Hello friend: I give you a greeting from Argentina. I am very happy that you do this kind of explanatory videos. I was looking for tutorials all over the world, how to make a camping backpack and I think that is what I need to make and make my backpacks.
@@elmundosemueveaunasoladire2580 Thank you! I hope this channel will be useful to your making backpack. It takes time to edit and release videos, if you have any questions or you have an interest in my activity, please also check Instagram and feel free to send DM!
