I'm ignorant on the subject so I don't know if this is true or not, but I've heard that Japan has a huge virginity problem for both men and women so much so that the birth rate is being affected. That could just be false though.
It's a youth culture (若者文化) thing with what they see from western norms. The crazy thing is, half of young single men *and* women in Japan do not actually have sexual experiences. (Tharoot, 2016; McCurry, 2017)
