Remember when “Hololive English” was simply a joke idea by Coco? Well, it turned out to be so much more ey? This is why it’s a victory for not just Gura, but *all* of Hololive.
I'm pretty sure everyone acknowledge how fast gura grew, i mean who wouldn't? but they just don't talk about it in stream, cause there's no need to, coco talk about it because she has asacoco going on.
She suggested an English branch essentially but likely just said "HoloAmerica" because A. Shes from America B. Anime (and thus V-Tubers kinda) is very popular and mainstream in America.
the apex predator that Gura is, she started from the bottom and breached the top at water leaping power to catch her prey just like real white sharks do
Gura speedrunning sub, Ame speedrun to Haachama arc, Calli is speedrun to Suisei's Idol arc, Kiara is speed run to comedian Peko arc, Ina is speedrun a combination of Matsuri, Fubuki and Marine (savage, cute and little boomer dad joke). It's an eventful month for EN girls that for sure.
@@faux3931 its fake you can see how the chat moving is unusual and all hololive members(especially JP idk about others) Right now never showed their chat because of the incident
Whoever designed that character deserves awards. The amount of cuteness is insane. Imagine the pressure Gura must be under right now. Going from fan, to member, to pushed out in front before even settling in. Not an easy position to end up in.
@@kekeke8988 If you were to wipe Kizuna Ai's inactive subs, it'd be very very low, even tho they have so many subs, they get about 10k to 100k views on the videos, while Hololive girls like Gura Korone and Pekora get about 500~600k views on their archives and 200k on the less popular ones.
To me, it doesn't really matter who reached 1 mil first or something like that. I'll be cheering on all of them all the same. Note: In this case, Gawr Gura reached a milestone, so we celebrate for Gawr Gura. If it was Korone, FBK, or any other member, then we do the same. What I am saying is that who to cheer for isn't a competition or a zero-sum game (hope this clarifies negative implications).
Hey I'm happy for Gura but someone like Akirose will still interact with with her chats and read her SCs in real time. I'll keep supporting the smaller streamers since the big ones are more than taken care of.
I think people really don't fully realize how big of a deal this is. The channel has a million subs but doesn't upload videos but only does live streams has this many subs. Really shows the talent and skillset of a live streamer.
people sure loves to throw flowers at stuff just because they like it hu. read about metcalfee net effect, this, plus the meme and the amount of idiot feminist throwing shit at her made this, she its a fine streamer but nothing more. its in fact the one that has put less effort on her channel so far in hololive-en
To think, it all happened because she was 15 minutes late to her own debut and when she got the camera working, all she did was say "a" at the stream and restarted it.
@@Internextion lets juat say the hololive EN girls are super talented. Hololive scooped up some good ones. One had a 1mil subs channel, one was an actual idol, and another was making great music and animations with multiple albums on Spotify.
@@VitusAvitus don't leave me hanging like that! I know is taboo but man I'm curious, plus I'm pretty sure western audience aren't the type to destroy "Idols" (which is why they keep the secret in JP i guess, and I don't only refer to Mano, towa went into hidding for 2 weeks because a male voice was heard in a stream and viewers shamed her)
Part of the spam bot repertoire is "Coco is better than gura" "gura waiting room" and other comments that bring up Gura. If you see these, regardless whether it did come from the bots or it came from some socially incapable fan, they shouldn't be in chat either way. Block/Report/Ignore etc.
the best thing is that the holoEN girls themselve thought that they would get around 50k subs after a month(according to Kiara in one of her streams I think)
You know how, during their debut streams, they also presented some of their mid-to-long-term goals? One of Amelia's goals was reaching 100k subs and she reached that on her very first day :D
When they first announced HoloEN I was so skeptical at first but when they started streaming I enjoyed watching all of them! and now one of them reached 1 mil in less than 2 months? this is insane Congrats on getting 1 mil subs Garfield!
Honest speaking, HoloEN has an advantage of having a much wider reach than the JP counterpart. If the JP can have a team that focus on officially subbing their contents in English, they’ll be taking over the world by storm.
@@LesEnfants1972 I think so too but that's a lotta work and each member has to have a group of translators coz they stream a few times per day. Back then when Kizuna AI was still super popular, she had some translators but sometimes it took weeks for 1 stream to be translated.
Botan's growth is definitely amazing, just HoloEN all grew even more insanely fast due to being the first pioneers into the new market. Congrats to all of them tough, they all deserve the success they've earned it.
The concept really doesn't fit thought normally she explain western memes to japanese viewers and we can see jp members reaction maybe she can make reviews that explain jp memes to western viewers and collab with en and id members
@@machan2413 but she picks memes form the subreddit that is English only (plus her translation only helps in getting less memes in one stream and spending 3min in one meme)
@@rillzy9637 Well Kiara probably as she seems to know Japanese fairly well.. Well I saw her Fubuki coab last week, so that answers that question. Kiara and Coco be good
To be fair, Gura is super adorable and special. I mean who else has made plans on what to do and what to build in Minecraft but at the end of her 3 hours stream, only made a door. Not just any door. A wooden door.
Probably true. Only speaking Japanese is definitely holding back her growth, because she simply has less broad appeal. I think if Coco were to debut as Coco Kaine now just as an example, speaking mostly English, she would surpass Gura in subs by the end of the year, even taking in to account Gura's future growth. Not to say it would be a competition, or to diminish Gura in any way, but just to emphasize how incredibly good Coco is at growing and marketing herself. Despite speaking 90+% japanese only in her streams, she still has huge international appeal, the most among HololiveJP I believe with an average of 50+% overseas viewers and subs, that would definitely explode if she did more English content. She's so innovative and creative in everything she comes up with, and the way she promotes it, her being the number 1 most superchatted girl despite not even being close to the most subscribed in hololive is proof of that.
She doesn't really care though. She scouted the Hololive EN members in the first place. In fact rumors suggest that Coco was part of the audition process, so it also explains why Gen 1 of Hololive EN was so strong. Since it needed to get the Dragon's seal of approval.
I gotta admit, I was surprised too at first by how quickly she blew up, but then I realized "She primarily speaks English". Now I love my *shuba shuba* duck, but not having to go to a translator makes her easily accessible to old and new hololive fans where they can just watch a stream and understand. English is taught worldwide, not *everywhere*, but pretty much. Not to mention how family friendly she seems, both in appearance and commentary.
Yeah "no tl needed" seems like a valid reason for holoen explosive growth. Imo a lot of english speaking fans had their chosen favourite girls they subbed to and watched despite language barrier, we were spread out alongside whole hololive. But being subbed to en girls is... convenient. Like I can put archive/stream on second screen and still follow what's happening, so why not sub to all of them. And now we have variation of newcomers. They stick for now to Gura, and as I agree to your arguments I'd like to add one thing: she plays horrors, and that's a genre that "created" many popular youtubers.
To be honest, all Hololive Members, doesn't matter If it's En or JP, are great. All of them have their own Talent and that Gura reached the first Million subs of all of the Hololive Members is truely amazing. But what i wanna say is, that's not a Race or competition. Clearly it is a win, but not for her alone, but for Hololive too.
With all my love for all vtubers and (not) all companies... People, wake up! It's a damn media business -- of course, it's their competition! You have a low amount of subscribers -- you lose. 'Cause you have not enough popularity and money. Therefore you quit sooner or later.
@@0_DefaulT_0 It's kinda sad that we look at sub count instead of quality of subs. I believe that the creator usually attracts the same type of followers. If the creator is wholesome and honest, their followers are. Like I myself is a art 'person', I tend to sub to the artsy vtubers.
I just people won't make this a competition like that one rude guy in Aki's stream who keeps saying “just quit already, you're the one who has the lowest subscriber count so there's no point in you staying” 😢 🔫 (hi)
That's so toxic, I think it's just a bunch of new viewers that come in that haven't watched how much hardwork all the girls have put into building hololive. Gura's success is built on the blood, sweat and tears of her senpais and Gura and the EN girls knows it that's why she's constantly thankful for it. But you have these toxic fans thinking it's a competition bc it's not.
gura's doing great and it's a good thing but i have to admit i feel bad for fubuki and korone getting so close to being the first one at 1 million after more than a year of work and gura just going zoom past them in a month because she has acess to a larger audience
Coco pushed the shit out of cover for Hololive EN Knowing Japanese businesses it would have been extremely hard to get them to agree and that's with the already massivly successful Hololive. For holostars they would need to see more results in Japan first then someone would need to literally beat it into their skulls that it would make a good profit in EN. It might happen since recently our winning son has gotten a lot of more popularity recently but I highly doubt it's gonna be soon unfortunately
WTF she says, oh yeah. And she is damn right I remember that legendary ARK stream with Сoсo and Watame where Сoсo explained to the silly sheep that she should be grateful to their senpais for the hard work they have done to attract a large audience of Hololive and make their start easie. And I can't even imagine how injured her ego must be now. The whole thorny path that Coco overcame thanks to her hard work and ingenuity was missed by Gura, as if by magic. A year of hard work and hardship versus a month and several streams. Money and fame came to Gura out of nothing. In reality, though, their success is due to Coco and her enthusiasm in attracting a foreign audience. Hopefully HololiveEN 1st gen appreciates this and will be a grateful kohais to Coco.
I think the "foreign audience" goes to Fubuki, most of us saw her singing astronomia bc the coffin dance meme exploded, and from there youtube pushed vtuber clips on everyone. For me it was fubuki's astronomia and scatman into pekora, then pekora with rushia and then I became rushia's simp.
@@buoynot Yeah, fbk, I see. This just shows that you do not know anything about Hololive, about how it developed and who communicated with the English audience most of all (that is why Coco became # 1 in donations). You got here by accident after clicking on the FBK video. And I watched Coco's streams even before she came to Hololive and I saw everything she did: it was communication in English during the streams - she was the first and only one who did it, this was the creation of English subtitles, It was she who suggested to the management to create an English version of Hololive. For example, thanks to her, Korone started trying to use English, and then other streamers began to imitate her behavior.
@@onii-chan5015 You cannot just say it came to Gura with nothing. She puts effort into her streams and was selected by Cover corp. She has past experience with making videos and streaming, she's been doing this for almost 3 years now, not 1 month. She also knows her away around the internet and memes. I cannot disagree with you though. It is 110% thanks to all the senpais that vtubing is able to be this popular. But I hope you can also see that Gura has a lot of effort on her part too, as well as the rest of HoloEN girls. Heck, *EVERY* vtuber and streamer is working their best. The people that succeed make it look easy, but you never know how much effort was truly put into it behind the scenes.
@@hellogoodbye8620 Damn, you are right. I take my words back. I didn't know any other English streamers besides Nyanners and Ironmouse. I googled and found out that her previous channel had over 800k subscribers. It's amazing that her channel brought her such a low income, since she had to start her career over in the hololive agency. I hope she was offered good contract terms.
@@onii-chan5015 Yeah, it's really sad since she didn't seem to get much money from youtube and one of her songs were stolen and put onto tiktok, and again, she made no money from that. And it is ok, at the beginning I didn't know much about Hololive until others told me. This is just a rumor, but apparently Nyanners tried out for HoloEN and didn't make the cut, showing how intense the recruitment process is. Again it's just a rumor, but everyone in HoloEN is insanely talented nonetheless
Coco was the cornerstone of hololive, she exponentyally made holo grow. Her graduating made holo stagnant a little, but now with council and holox is going ok
i kinda feel bad for gura, it's too fast to celebrate anything for her edit: i meant looking at the other member how they are able to make some countdown endurance stream to reach certain milestone, gura just had to skip all of them.
The good news is that the difference between online game and normal fame is massive. With her game she can step away and go down to the shop without being noticed
@@xhydrox meh it's to be expected. She speaks English, she is cute, shitposts and her "old fans." Just really making a competition out of this pure fucking stupid
Just goes to show how much Hololive as a company have been sleeping on the English speaking world, the JP members would have had more subs if they arranged some sort of subtitling too, now those views are going to channels like these who are doing subtitles.
Although i'm happy that she reached a million subs, it kinda put her in an awkward situation where she got far ahead of the other EN members and surpassed her senpais, which have been working hard for the past year or so in a quick span of time (dude, 1 mil in like freakin 1 month). I think most of them are okay with it but it made an unnecessary feeling of uncomfortableness. I wish everyone support all EN, JP, including ID and CN members.
I think the only one who might feel a bit weird about it is Gura herself. I can imagine she wanted FBK or Korone the first one to reach 1mill. I hope she doesn't feel to pressured
@@vesicapiscis9717 yeah, if FBK or Korone gets to 1 mill first before Gura, she would be less weirded out because it's more "normal" knowing that FBK and Korone have been doing this longer than her. I also hope she doesn't feel too pressured too
Nah, gura is smart, she quickly deflected the SCs when she was with calli to avoid making it all about herself, so I'm pretty sure she doesn't make it awkward.
@@buoynot yeah, i think so too. She didn't specifically said, "thanks for 1 mil!" but instead telling calli, "we reached a milestone together!" and avoided not making it totally about herself. I'm just kinda worried if something got awkward behind the scenes
I think people do not know that Gura's old fans are want made her subs skyrocket so fast to 1 million. Her old channel had close to 1 million subs. Btw don't ask for the old channel name cause i ain't saying shit lmao.
It’s actually kinda sad that she can’t even make a livestream about celebrating every milestones from thousand to 1 million (I respect her for that because she knows she think she doesn’t deserves it in term of how fast her growth was, idk). Like any other girls obviously the JP, when they reached 100K, 600K, 900K, they got a chance to celebrate by making a livestream to thanks their fans, they got to feels what it’s like reaching level after level with all their hardwork. Gura didn’t got a chance to feel what that feels like. Once this will start pressuring her (which I hope not) blame yourself newbie, I will not blame myself because I never subscribed to her or any EN girls since day 1. Remember that. Thanks a lot for your boost to her.
Its not a race, its about build content. We prefer vtubers that remains in memory like coco subaru fubuki rushia luna okayu korone botan lamy flare nene pekora marine aqua and its not a subscribe rank, its how they are a family with you.
@@zeroanimation3956 i think saying that is like troll or bard her. Hololive is celebrating her archivement and you and someone else are spreading this for confuse ppl.
@@Cafebcs me? what am i spreading? you saying like Gura fanbase is in for cheap content. "we prefer vtuber that remains in memory". oh you already edit your comment.
I hope Coco knows that Gura and the rest of the EN's success is all because of her and the rest of the girl's tireless and unyielding dedication. Its not only an amazing accomplishment for Gura, but also for all the talents from the rest of the Hololive. The 1M sub is only a number, it's representation is the accumulation of all the hardwork they have done throughout the years and is continuing to do. It truly is a great and happy moment for everyone.
Well, half a year later and 1.5 million more subscribers atop the initial 1 mil I think we can conclusively say it's quality! Nobody has even reached 2 million besides her.
Thing with this is, it sorta puts more pressure on Gura now than it was with Fubuki at the time when she became the highest subbed member, though Gura seems to be handling it pretty well.
@@xhydrox Probably some trolls / bots / new folks. Still, it's pretty annoying. That's why some people decide to turn off or ignore livechat when there's a livestream.
Coco for over a year "we need a Hololive USA yagoo" Guess he's feeling rather silly not taking English speaking world seriously earlier as we went FIVE generations, expansions to China and Indonesia as well as Holostars first lol Still no one predicted this kind of growth - Towa recently celebrated 300k which likes of Watson and Calli already have. The English world is spreading into Japanese girls so everything is winning (always been a Akirose fan, overseas bros really showed the likes of her are loved and respected all over the globe despite not being able to match the likes of Coco, Korone, FBK in numbers). I'm expecting 2nd gen EN soon based on success.
I do think if they just casually introduced HoloEN like around gen 2 or gen 3, it wouldn't be as massively successful as it is now. Hololive got a lot more popular overseas around 2019-2020. Coco herself, I think was a big reason English-speaking Hololive members became a huge interest point. Hololive Indonesia felt like a testing ground, as they all speak English. And, with all of that and the 'Rona keeping everybody at home, HoloEN had a lot of interest and momentum going into their debut. That being said, I don't think Coco, YAGOO, the fans, anyone could've expected HoloEN to be as successful out of the gate like you said. So, it's just a lot of the right pieces falling into place at the right time, I believe.
I can't be the only one who is a little mad that so many other talented, amazing streamers have existed in hololive for much, MUCH, longer, and have deserved 1m for a VERY long time, and Gura just gets it in a month? Don't get me wrong, I love Gura and her content as much as the next guy, but I feel like the other hololive girls deserved 1mil long ago, and have never gotten there. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe either Fubuki or Korone are second place in hololive subwise, and they only have 900K last time I checked. It is a little upsetting.
Japan is a small market if you see how many countries speak or use english. For example if cover hire japanese-english translators their numbers will go wild just from translating their ended streamings.
Gura must be burden by this achievement, like toxic "fans" or antis that bragging/mocking her senpai... but hey she's not have Japanese "culture" so i think she's gonna be fine mentally 🏃♂️
