This is one of the things I love about Classical Chinese martial arts, the emphasis on using your environment. I never got this in Karate or Kenpo. They are both great for open hand, but I never learned how to use things like belts, rope, chairs, pencils, and so on until I started learning Kung Fu.
In the late 1960s to early ‘70s, we had a Dojo in California by the ocean and next to a bar. One day my first Karate teacher was seated at a table and drinking a beer from a mug. At some point a guy went to attack him with a punch. My Sensei looked calmly as the guy wound up his punch and hit the guy in the chest with a reverse punch holding the beer mug. Down went the attacker! After that, I always try to be aware of what objects are at hand if something goes awry. In a restaurant, silverware: knife, fork, spoon, etc.. At a desk, pen, pencil, letter opener, stapler, etc..
Many thanks Master Miyahira Tamotsu, in Europe hidden weapons are mostly illegal, so an environmental tool like bags, scarfs or umprella or a stick or something smoller like a pen will do the job. For teching self-defence it is a must to increase situational awareness and for worsdt case scenarios. Good health and good students, Paul, 67, retired isntructor of Karate.
Holy crap, I can't believe he's putting this out in public! We've kept this as one of our closed-door trainings for as long as it's been taught in the U.S.!
@@danielo7277 i know for a fact, people like this exist..who you think paying the member fees in these secret death touch dojos with steaven seagal type trainers
such a great sensei. his video almost always emphasize on practical application, not just empty forms like most other "sensei" out there.. he reminds me of one of my sensei, who liked to carry a small bath towel everywhere.. I remember he told us once that the towel is very effective, flexible and one of the least conspicuous self defense tool.
@@teekandy honestly I've never seen him fight a real thug or anything, but his explanation seemed quite logical to me because he would use the towel for surprise attack by flicking it at the attacker and then use some follow-up counter, or to bind their limbs like a rope, or to cover their face. the towel is not a gun that can finish a fight on it's own. he also always taught us that it's better to run away from a fight rather than try to act like an invincible superhero
Hello kuro-obi world I really like all your videos very informative and enjoyable ✨💙 But can you make a video about Yoseikan budō it's actually a Japanese martial art but no one is talking about it It's being taught in my country and I'm thinking of joining it ✨
it is a different self defence when it comes to weapon. Sensei make a point that takedown are useful ina peaceful era but not warfare, as you will be stabbed. This is a valuable information! thank you sensei!
The interesting thing is that matt from the channel "schola gladiatoria" just touched on what miyahara sensei was talking about in a video he just posted how in the medieval age in western europe every single person almost always carried at least an eating or utility knife on them and many carried more weapon oriented blades when they traveled and how that changed the whole way you approached fighting because it meant you couldnt really grapple or clinch or tackle anyone because of the knives. This also affected the way people dressed (heavy leather gloves or mail gauntlets, light armor, padded doublets etc) because of it, it still holds true today.
@@ArcticGator There's this old superstition in Indonesia that pregnant women should bring scissors with them if they go out at night to repel bad spirits. I assume this goes back as far as the colonial era. I think it's much simpler than that. It's for self-defense like Miyahira-sensei demonstrated here.
This is an interesting video.... There was recent news in Las Vegas about a man with a Kitchen Knife being used in a crowd with tragic results.. 2 dead and 6 injured in less that 30 seconds.
Senjata tersembunyi, saya sering melihat film kungfu jaman dahulu.
