Can kendo be useful for self-defense?

I don't think so. It's more like a sport.

The 2 biggest things in a self defense scenario kendo could help with is what the eyes can see and notice and overall fitness. That being said you only get fit if you train accordingly. Non of the techniques nore kendo itself are related to self defense. Its about self imrpovment.
