The area around Lake Momiji (officially called Minowa Dam) is planted with 10,000 maple trees.
The area has been repeatedly voted the best autumn foliage spot in Japan.
This place, where visitors can enjoy the vivid red and yellow autumn colours, seems to have been planted over a period of 10 years with saplings nurtured and donated by the villagers who sank during the construction of the dam, so that the dam will be loved in the future.
