The story started with the Jojo author being completely unsure of his direction he wanted to write in, so he initially made a story with elements from Fist of the North Star that was popular at the time and he wanted to pay homage to, before the series was given life onto its own. The naming idea came from his love of initials of people's names starting with the same letter, and meeting with his editor at Jonathans. He was surprised that the Japanese readership was interested in seeing protagonists that weren't Japanese and that he was allowed to run his series in Jump. He was entranced by the statues and figures in italy depicting human immortality and wanted that theme of chasing the ideal of human beauty and respecting life in his work, so that was why he went with DIO meaning God, for the villain's name. He constantly draws with sculptures of humans as a reference to keep the same motive in mind as the artists of centuries past in what they were trying to convey. @@Anvica Araki wasn't necessarily unsure of his direction, but he did take some time thinking of how he wanted to proceed (and he reflected that just like how Jojo was growing in his youth, Araki was growing along with him). Phantom Blood is inspired in part by Hokuto, but it's still a unique story, with distinctive elements. In fact, it was a rather atypical Shonen title for the time, what with its foreign setting, its foreign characters, and with the protagonist Jojo constantly "losing" in the beginning chapters before rebounding triumphantly. Araki also developed his unique writing style of blending historical and scientific tidbits into his work, which he did only a bit of in his previous work, but truly started to craft in Jojo. It even ends rather atypically, with the death of the protagonist, something rare during the time (although central protagonists did die from time to time), and the development of a story of legacy (Araki designed Joseph to physically resemble his grandfather in order to drive home that Joseph has inherited much from Jojo in spirit and appearance. but that he is still a distinct character. He also did it to ease readers into the idea of switching protagonists, and to lessen the blow from Jojo's death, as well as to not confuse readers as to whether or not this was the same manga. Araki also planned from the beginning to have Jojo feature three Parts, and conclude, with the general idea being adventures around the globe, with a descendant of the original protagonist finishing the overarching conflict in Japan. Araki had given it life from the beginning, and it had a sizable readership and fanbase (with several fans sending him fan art and letters), but Jojo really became popular once Stardust Crusaders came onto the scene, as you're no doubt aware. Araki didn't exactly name DIO after the Italian word for God, it's primarily a reference to Ronnie James Dio. Otherwise, yes. Jojo's main theme and idea is to be a celebration of humanity, and to depict people at their best and worst, as well as to praise human ability to overcome through ingenuity, through the characters doing much the same thing.

@@FatherShrimpKvikklunsj GER wouldn't protect Giorno from the universe reset, since not only does it defend him unconsciously from direct threats (and the acceleration of time isn't an direct threat). The universe reset isn't harmful to him or anyone. Even if GER were immune to the effects of MiH, all that would do is render Pucci moving at normal speed from Giorno's perspective. It wouldn't prevent him from moving to an alternate universe, since every one and everything gets carried over.
