Hi from Singapore. I'm British but have lived here for 29 years. I keep medaka on my balcony. So glad to have found this site. Subbed. Great info. Thanks.
Good info. Mine are enjoying the heater being on in their big tank, all 5 still accounted for and physically healthy now, seemingly, although the -possibly defective-short-bodied fish has taken to hiding at the bottom inside caves and under pots so it must still be getting harrassed, but it has plenty of room (about 50 gal). I'd separate it but I'm not eager to buy and run yet another heater. Thinking it over. Outside, 4" of snow a couple days ago.
Hi there so just so I have the details right, the 3 days of temperature is that based on air temperature or just water temperature I have been monitoring both I'm in the uk in my small pond water has been 9C yesterday, today 11C, so only about a 1 degree difference in air and water temps, the water being 1 degree lower than the air temps I will continue to check but just wondering thanks anyway for all your input 😊 also unsure if you have already mentioned in any of your videos but last year I had my fish out for a short period, and after I brought them in towards the end of the summer I noticed at least one kind of lavea in my pond so I'm just a little concerned that they might prey on my tiny fish fry, so I'm curious if you might have had similar issues yourself and if so how to deal with them? I do have some insect netting made for putting over windows supposed to keep things like mosquitoes out so I did use that but I didn't use it for the whole summer so there was chances for creatures lay eggs definitely. I think I will cover my pond this summer but I have marginal plants so I need to divise a way to cover the pond but not smush my plants thanks
Hi. The 6.6c 10c 15c that I may have mentioned here in this video is the water temp. I do not feed until the water temp is at least 10c. As for any "Larvea in my pond ", I don't worry. The strong Fry will not be affected. They will find a way to survive. You will have stronger Genes that way to pass on to the next generation. Hopefully, I answered your question. We need to feed our medakas in the winter ? every day ? Or one time per week ? or 5 months with zero food ? Can you explain when we need stop feeding our medakas ?
Hi. Their digestive system does not start functioning completely until the water temp is around 50F (10C). At 60F+ (15C) their system is optimal. If you live in an area where the winter temp is bellow 50F, I would stop feeding completely. Since they will not be active during the cold winter months, the natural green water (phytoplankton) will be plenty for them. Thank you for chiming in MedakaHead @pacae911 !
