The advantage of doing so more than once is it gives more breathing room to heal escaton tick damage. And more knockdown means more window to deal damage to his horns so you can achieve an easier break once he shifts to dragon element (his horns are only breakable when he's in dragon mode btw). I agree with IDeVaste, going full elemental is only good for weakening escaton judgement but sub-optimal overall in terms of damage and breaking the horns (and other parts and causing flinches and claggers for that matter). This is why almost all of the fastest clear times I see only aims to reach the elemental dps check just 1x and then the rest of the builds are actually geared more towards more damage that is mostly raw. If anything, I think alatreon's 1st escaton comes usually at a little over the 5 minute mark, and from runs such as this and others where alatreon's element is shut down 3x, I'm lead to believe that this is the max and actually forces escaton to come out earlier to sort of reset his elemental threshold (kinda like teo/luna mode reset after nova or nergi spike reset after divebomb) It is now also shown to be possible for 4P to kill alatreon without him getting to pull off an escaton judgement. This is achievable by dishing out the highest numbers (I think ideally high raw with high enough element just in case but could actually be doable pure raw. I actually managed to get the special knockdown FOUR times in one of my solo runs, plus a K.O lol. After escaton I got another knockdown for a total of five in one run; I think the escaton judgement timing is %HP based and considering how sloppy my run was (by letting him enrage during aerial phase and taking needless hits) I was able to delay it enough to get an extra KD. Just aim to have a high enough element to be able to weaken EJ once then the gear the rest of your build for higher dps (ideally for more raw after enough element has been reached, but up to players to add some more element just in case and depending on how aggressive they can be on dealing elemental damage). This is because alatreon's elemental hitzone values (hzv) are actually low whereas his raw hzv are very high (his highest is second only to Kulve Taroth's which is the game's highest). The need for high element on weapons is to counter these poor element hzv as you aim to beat the element dps check at least once to make EJ survivable. The resulting knockdown is great and all but if you geared pure elemental and didn't boost your raw attack as well, it'll actually take much longer to break his horns and it'll also take longer to kill him. Balance is key. Look at this SnS heroics run and also his non heroics run. In both, he reached the elemental dps check only once yet he achieved comparable and even faster clear times than DB. And for those struggling with alatreon's flying mode, just as in previous games where when speedrunners go against black dragons they farcaster out once the monster becomes airborne so as to ground it, the work-around in this iteration of alatreon's fight are smokebombs and/or ghillie mantle which achieves the de-aggroing effect which is what actually makes black dragons land back down. 😁

How are you able to go into the clutch claw spins without doing the spin to win? I tried to do what you did and it doesn't work I can only do spin to win>two upper spins>clutch attack. I noticed you were able to do dodge>upper spins>clutch or attack>upper spins>clutch which is faster.

I'm pretty sure it's at the 5 minute mark no matter what. It was in this video, and it usually feels like I've been through three of them by the time I get to the 15-18 minute mark. His speed in shifting phases does seem to vary, but that might just be placebo
