Not only did this talented artist make Gigan much more intelligent compared to his overly arrogant self in Final Wars, but they even took better advantage of his entire weapons arsenal for more creative action sequences. I'm so glad that this MMD animation, along with the other Anniversary short films from this time, has given one of my personal favourite Kaiju some well needed justice on screen at long last which he rightfully deserved!
Yeah I really feel like gigan needed more intelligence because wth his final wars ver was cool but really arrogant and dumb,he is one of my favorite kaijus but bruh he needed a revamp not in design but in the fact of making him a lethal kaiju
This is absolutely amazing. This really showed Gigan as a real threat as compared to the movie. Love all the nods to the showa era. This deserves so much attention
I especially liked the part showing Gigan just sitting in the middle of the destroyed city like Vegeta which the final battle kinda had some motifs from the Saiyan saga like Gigan (Vegeta) escaping Godzilla's (Goku's) Super Atomic Breath (Kamehameha) and the beam struggle with Godzilla (Goku) and Gigan (Vegeta). But unlike the anime Gigan dies, and Vegeta lives because plot armor.
What really tickles me most is the Fight Choreography, this isn't just the usual, Might Makes Right Godzilla, but it's almost like an experienced combat fighter with countless millennia of monsters and years on his shoulders vs a thug who was given all his powers over night. Watching Gigan, quite literally, gloat and act like he was gonna win from the very beginning, was a sight to behold and made his defeat that much more satisfying. Godzilla using actual concentrated punches, showing that he's more than just a 10,000 ton ball of fury, was magnificent from beginning to end.
Translated the comment, here's what it says: It was a wonderful work that paid homage to the original work and strengthened Gigan while using the weapon's greatest weakness to create a flow of battle. I can have the best New Year's Eve~
With all due respect to the other contenders this year, this is the best among all the Gigan's 50th celebration shorts, action wise. Kept grinning everytime whenever I spot references or Final Wars-level-of-crazy action sequences happen. Totally lived up to my hype! Thank you for another great video!
The final parts of the battle were obvious motifs to the Goku vs Vegeta fight from the Saiyan saga like Gigan getting out of Godzilla's super atomic breath like how Vegeta got out of Goku's Kamehameha and the famous beam struggle with Goku's Kamehameha and Vegeta's Galick Gun.
I really do believe that this Gigan really got the recognition it deserves than any other Gigan throughout the years. Even though this Gigan still loss in the end but still lasted longer than any other Gigans. Hopefully he’ll get the recognition he deserves on the big screen. For now, this is the best we can get.
To be fair, we all know that no matter which monster fights the G.Man himself, they'll lose. But Gigan definitely proved to be an absolute and dangerous foe. On his own, he really kicked the hell out of Godzilla and always had another trick up his sleeve.
i agree with you here. In final wars gigan gets easily destroyed by godzilla, and killed off by his own weapons to the point he looks like a joke or something. But in this vid, i finally found him as a top threat
@@Xrfreedom13 Yeah, like seriously he’s one of my favorite villains. Hopefully in the Monsterverse he’ll get a chance to go up against Legendary Godzilla and see how much he’s improved. Plus I would love to see Anguirus will be on the big screen again.
Out of all the Gigan 50th anniversary animations I've seen, this one is the absolute best. The way how both Godzilla and Gigan display they're characterization by their actions really makes this fight and animation absolutely remarkable. Godzilla displaying rage and the desire to kill his enemy but he's smart enough to use a strategy to prevail if needed and Gigan displaying evil, arrogance and the desire to wipe out all life on the planet but he ultimately loses due to his overconfidence. This is by far my favorite work that you made. I can't wait to see what you have in store for us in the future.
I honestly appreciate how much faster-paced this one felt than your other work despite having fewer lasers and explosions than normal. it is made up with lots of charm and character. It really felt like Gigan was a full-on character with so many fun and flashy combo moves. I also appreciate having it be FW godzilla vs FW gigan it makes this feel like the fight the movie didn't give us. Gigan tripping on his own chain felt extremely in character for FW gigan to do.
I think it strikes a nice balance. '04 Gigan had a sweet design but was so cartoonishly stupid you'd think he was a Lucasfilm villain. This version of Gigan had the appropriate balance of menace and capability that it feels like Godzilla had to work to outsmart him, outsmart being the key word. Gigan isn't dumb, Godzilla just outplayed him.
This is without a doubt the best representation of Gigan since IDW comics version. Displaying all of Gigans strengths, his speed, his intelligence and his variety of deadly weapons and attacks.
Excellent characterization of both monsters, I especially loved the moment when Godzilla beckoned Gigan, and in Gigan’s arrogance he laughed and went in for the kill. Amazing visual storytelling on display here and it boggles my damn mind you can pull this off in MMD. Amazing work and happy new year!
@@KingKong19100 eh...I wouldn't call hedorah, biollante and gigan obscure given how popular they are in the fandom and how much attention they gotten in recent years (outside of movies). King Caesar in comparison to them is the obscure one here when he isn't featured or talked about much in godzilla content unfortunately.
I just realized. *The end is a reference to Goku VS Vegeta!* Godzilla firing a blue beam from the ground towards Gigan in the sky, who fires off a pink/purple beam towards the ground, not to mention Gigan being hit by the Burning G-Spark Heat Ray is a reference both to Keizer Ghidorah's death and the Spirit Bomb being used on Vegeta(at least, i think)! Amazing job, keep up the amazing work!
This is exactly what playing with my Godzilla figures looked like when I was a kid. There's plenty here worthy of praise but my absolute favorite part of this animation has to be this depiction of Gigan. His distinct personality and fighting style shine here, I always adore seeing new abilities and old ones being used in different ways, and it's incredibly satisfying to see FW Goji and Gigan have a proper brawl while still paying tribute to the film that inspired this. Additonally, this fight had a fine balance of melee and beam attacks! Neither merely spammed their beams nor forgot to use them when it would be advantegous to them. Excellent job there! Undoubtedly, another phenomenal accomplishment by all the passionate mad lads who took the time and energy to create this love letter to a classic kaiju! As always, thank you all for sharing this with us!
The amount of references to Gigan's attacks from previous movies and video games is incredible. He has so much personality shown off in such a short 17 minutes.
Words can not describe how amazing this was to witness! The animation, the choreography, the effects, the characterizations, etc. Phenomenal job with everything.
I gotta say…this is the best damn fight Gigan ever had in any medium. We got to see his personality, combat prowess, and even the cocky side as well as it’s sadism. He gave Godzilla his truest best and stood a fighting chance without getting one shot or sent running away.
This is the best Godzilla vs Gigan film of the year, and it’s December 31st. UNREAL. Love the characterization of both monsters on display, and the fun references to different films. The action and fight choreography were the best I’ve ever seen from you, and I love the faster pace this one had compared to a lot of the other short films you’ve made. Bravo.
man this guy or team nailed this animation even the sounds are so good I can’t even imagine myself making an animation and finding sounds this is AMAZING!!!
13:05 I’m freaking out RN. How Godzilla just tricked Gigan into running at him with his chainsaw blades (that also act as a tire on a car) by taunting him to come get me knowing the chain shots Gigan accidentally dropped were right in front of him and Godzilla knowing Gigan’s chainsaw blades would get seriously tangled up in that chain shot and render them useless while all the while Gigan just dropping on face like an idiot and not realizing Godzilla’s smart.

OH! MY! GOOOODDDDD!!!! This was amazing on so many levels. Action, character, animation!!! Toho has competition and it had better be hiring some of these animators because they need this kind of dedication and skill.
This has truly been Gigan’s year. Amazing job! Live the fast pased action, just like Final Wars and I love it. Love Gigan’s personality, just wrecking everything and enjoying every minute of it. Such a cocky yet savage monster. Also, 13:30, I just have two words: Peak Badassery! The timing, buildup and execution were perfection. You always make New Years such a treat. Fantastic job and happy anniversary Gigan!
A fantastic way to end Gigan's big year as well as a glorious tribute to Final Wars! As a long time Gigan and GFW fan, let me say you knocked it out of the park! The amount of personality in the monsters and the inventiveness with the action was remarkable. A perfect culmination of everything that came before for the King of the Monsters and the first kaiju to make him bleed.
Out of all the Godzilla vs Gigan battles this year, this one was the best by far. Amazing job with Gigan, he did his job as an actual threat. The stakes were so high, I actually thought Godzilla could lose this time. This is how you do Gigan the right way.
I love how Gigan can transform into Gigan-X. Also, loving the darkmatter fusion cannon at the end there. Nice addition to Gigan's arsenal. Finally, I have to say it as a DBZ fan, that was straight-up Goku VS Vegeta at the end there lol
Seeing the Final Wars references while also having moments that came from the GvG short they did with the suits and seeing Gigan perform moves from Unleashed and the PS4 game amazes me.
This is most definitely the best one out of all the GvG celebration short films, not that the others were bad or anything, but this one just proved to be extremely wonderful. Wonderful in the referencing to the actual FW gigan and godzilla to the action, and even the characteristics that each kaiju possessed from the original movie. Thanks for a beautifully animated short for the GvG celebration.
Pretty sure Godzilla would have already healed those wounds within seconds. He does have an insane healing/regeneration factor. Confirmed by Toho. But the overall video and fight was amazing and true to Final Wars Goji and Gigan.
Does it matter if he doesn't heal his wounds in seconds? He can heal wounds in minutes or hours at best while it would take anyone else days, weeks, months, years or possibly never to heal from the wounds godzilla gets. A fast regenerative factor doesn't always mean instant regeneration. It just means a healing factor that's faster than normal. A wound that can take months to heal can heal in seconds, minutes or hours. Still fast in general
Anyone else notice how Gigans blast was purple? It’s similar to how Goku and Vegetas beam struggle was when he first came to earth. Love the Dragon Ball reference
This was the most shounen-shit I've ever seen out of a Godzilla thing, and I loved every second of it Gigan was just a straight up anime villain, amazing work as always.
God damn that was one of the most badass Godzilla fights ever, animation felt like old school movies, so the effects didn't look too awkward for seeing something that big do a fast paced back flip. Call backs to the games (shout out to EDF if they aren't fighting bugs its kaijus), moives, and the fact that Gigan is said to have a sidestick statist side from the books I think. The transition from broken scythe to his chainsaws felt like a touch of movie magic to give the audience a taste of perfect lore accuracy. No doubt if Gigan was made to be Godzilla's prime foe other than Ghidorah, this is probably what we would have seen in Final Wars. Also showing Gigan ain't going down even after being scorch by the devastation RED SPIRAL RAY shows his determination, the way he pushed himself away from death. If this Gigan was in the monterverse instead of the guy who stands there watching someone kill him, or killing himself, there would be a true threat to all of Earth. Also I read this like the death battle's Boomstick for some reason.
