He did NOT willingly show cruelty to the rest of her family. He knew they were innocent already but had to go along with acting like he thought they were guilty. I still think he is protecting her parents and brother somewhere hidden. In that 3 years he protected her from being killed like she was supposed to be, being a daughter and part of a family that had become traitors (falsely accused of course)!!! He kept her there for that reason as she wanted to leave to find out if any of her family was still alive!!!. Yes, he broke his word after the 3 years, but AGAIN that was to keep her protected at his mansion. He also loved her deeply of course. He was cruel in his resentment and acted badly but it wasn't because he truly ever hated her for the following - he was really angered AND emotionally hurt because he thought she really wanted to marry that other guy, but instead only got as far a becoming engaged to him for awhile. But she was forced to do it. She is doing what she should by making him pay for his anger and resentment but she will forgive him in the end.............I hope. She really emotional tortured him so much he was going to slice his own throat and kill himself when he thought she was going to sleep with Qi Yan..............and didn't. I'd say that was a lot of payback she did to him that night.
