Synopsis:
Cheng Shao Shang is a young girl who was forced to grow up alone after most of her family had to leave to fight in a bloody war. Thus she becomes stubborn and untrusting. She fends for herself in a town populated by people like her, who have been left behind by the war.
One day, a talented and powerfu general named Ling Bu Yi comes to the town - and falls in love with her at first sight. He resolves to marry her, even though it will cause him no end of problems if he decides to pursue this union. She also warns him that she doesn’t trust him, and that her stubborn personality might not be suitable for the wife of a general. But Ling Bu Yi also has deep secrets, and there are facts about his true identity that even he does not know. General Ling changed his mind quickly when he found out that Niao Niao was staying...lol The little smile he gives when he looks at her is precious. The man has found the woman he's going to devote his life to. He's eavesdropping on their private conversation...lol This man can't help himself when it comes to Niao Niao. I can't get enough of these two..they're going to make an unstoppable team. She won't be able to fool him...he already knows her too well. He's never going to let her outlive what she said about him....lol She's destined to have those words played over/over again. He's amazing...he's trying to protect her and her family by asking her for help. These short interactions are gold. The grandmother knows what's going on....she did the right thing...otherwise her entire family would pay the price for her son's stupidity. Can someone please slap the hell out of Niao Niao's mother...she's driving me crazy. She refuses to admit her own failures so she's making her daughter suffer for her incompetence. If she wasn't trying hard to erase her guilt then...she could love Niao Niao in the right way...which would make it easier for her to teach her...but her guilt is preventing her from seeing the truth.

@@Doreas13 I agree. Niao Niao's street smarts are really paying off. Her mother is upset with her for adapting the character traits of her grandmother and aunt. Instead of loving her daughter...and slowly educating her...she decided to use an iron fist. I hate her hypocrisy because she knew her daughter was being bullied but she didn't intervene because she wanted to use her suffering as a way to drive a wedge between her husband and his mother. She used him to help her reclaim the authority to run the household. She was vicious to her own daughter so I don't expect her to change any time soon....with Niao Niao's personality I doubt she's going to forgive her mother any time soon....if ever

@@balmatieramdass5880 I think the mother feels guilty for not being there to raise her daughter(Niao Niao). I think the mother can't find that loving attraction with her daughter because she was never there for her. Her mother was there emotionally and physically for the sons but not with Niao. Anything that Niao say or do the mother automatic disapprove of it. Plus, I think the mother is really disappointed in the grandmother who didn't take good care of her daughter. Bu the mother doesn't see that she is following in the same foot steps as the grandmother. Everything that she is doing to her (Niao) has been done by the grandmother and she not seeing that. It's all boils down to guilt. The mother feel guilty in leaving her behind because she list to the grandmother and daughter-in-law back then.

That scene remind me when Zhao Lusy saved by Xu Kai Cheng in the same horse scene. In the series a female student arrives at the Imperial college, she is so beautiful there. I like her costume, her make up and her hair style there.

I saw the bts for that. It was so funny because Leo Wu thought she said go and the director just started filming and they all thought she was acting. Leo is actually a very good horseman so he was just having fun and Zhao was freaking out.

@Crest M ...Zhao Lusi did not hear the director call action. Wu Lei started and Lusi freaked out. She actually blamed him and was upset at first, saying he did it on purpose, until it was explained to her that they already called action. I hope she apologized to Wu Lei because it was unprofessional of her to blame someone else for her own fault. Wu Lei was just doing his job.

Yep, I find that so amazing! I did not expect him to be only 22. Did you watch The Long Ballad? He also plays a fierce warrior in that drama and he plays it VERY well. That was so funny. He re-invited himself for dinner and to stay the night. General Ling is a clever schemer and he has tactics. He was killing two birds with one stone...recruiting Shao Shang who is close to the Wan family to help him get the map AND, at the same time, also spend time around her 😊 And that little smirk he gave her when he saw her eyes...but then he yelled at chubby when he laughed. I just love the dynamic between these characters.

I can’t believe I had to re watch again n again to catch all the subtle acting n dialogues. This drama is too clever for me. But I enjoyed all the comic in every eps. 🤣🤣🤣The mother of FL acting was excellent!!! Her acting were so good n right on point. She should win the award. Love this drama.👍✌🏼😎

General Ling, you have fallen for Niao Niao so deep. The way he looked at her and was like 'I'm going to stay cause my wife is here too'🤭🤗 Using the opportunity to have moments with her and find the map😉. How considerate of you to save the reputation of both families. After all, the girls in the families are innocent😊. The way he just told her everything, shows that he is willing to trust her because he knows that she will do the right thing🥰. And it is like he is practising for when she becomes his wife, that he shares everything with her😉🤗. Also, not him and the other 2 eavesdropping on girls' talk😂. That was hilarious👁👄👁. I guess when it comes to Niao Niao, he notices everything, even her plot about the bridge. Though I'm still curious about what she planned to do with the bridge though.🤔 I like how the Old Madam knew that it was Niao Niao and helped her get the map😌. She has been around long enough to know political affairs. Also, her speaking about the girls being friends was very pleasant to hear. She spits facts: find the right people💁‍♀. I think she is also relieved that her granddaughter has such a good friend like Shaoshang/ Niao Niao for in the future💝🥺. The horse scene was really funny and it is the second time that my boy admits upfront that he likes her🤭🤫. Girl, if only you knew that this guy does not say these things as a joke considering his ice-cold appearance🥶. I was cackling when they all looked at the sky when Ling looked up.😂 Shows how much they fear him. Aside from that, the lieutenants of Ling are so funny and adorable. I can see why he trusts them. Thinking about it...almost every time you see such characters around the same type of friends. One who is serious and another one who keeps things lively🥰🥳. I'm glad little Yao is able to speak up. I'm so sorry my dear..you can't have Niao Niao. You can only be brother-zoned or friend-zoned✋😞. When is the mom going to change? Do you even know what a wonderful thing your daughter has done to save 2 families?!?! She has the knowledge and is capable of being in court. 🤦‍♀🤷‍♀

Ling buyi knew niao niao likes architecture and the faulty bridge gave her a plan in mind, so he anticipated her next moves, almost like a military tactical mind, and besides I get the feeling that our man buyi did something similar in the past to get even with his bullies in the palace, so why not help a kindred spirit with this level of patty😉😁

Kudos to the screenwriters. This drama has difficult subjects with plenty of funny scenes to temper the difficult ones. I laugh so much! I've even, unfortunately, done spittakes while drinking coffee. Thanks for your work and the subs that help us non chinese speakers understand what goes on.

OMG I keep giggling at how cute Ling Buyi's crush on Niaoniao is. It's such a funny contrast with how stone-faced he is and how expressive she is, but unlike a lot of dramas with a serious ML and funny FL, the ML falls first. Adorable!! Also: there are so many other series where it seems that all the adults or other characters are unreasonable and just pile on hate against the main character who is just the subject of misunderstandings and prejudice. In this series there are just as many adults who are kind and reasonable as there are ones who are uptight and only see what they want to see. Like Aunt Ge (Yang Yang's aunt who raised her), Third Aunt, and Old Madam Wan in this episode. Even if they don't have big parts and may not appear later, their scenes showing that they think Niaoniao's actions are justified are important. I love the balance. This series is really wonderful.

I’ve just started this series and it is proving to be very entertaining. I have never seen a leading man stand so tall and straight. There are no bends or tilts when it comes to his posture. When he moves it’s as if he’s gliding. I thought it was so funny when the leading lady gave herself two black eyes 😂😂😂😂😂. This girl is a force to be reckoned with😀😀😀.
