“can opener’s notebook: fish whisperer” is a concept album about a neurodivergent unicorn named can opener (canni). once an overachieving marine biologist, the ocean-fixated canni leaves home to pursue their lifelong dream of being a musician, in a quiet cabin on the yakyakistan coast. their fixation on using electronics and broken instruments to create music, while simultaneously becoming detached from their skills as a scientist, earns the disapproval of their parents. canni finds work as a marine biologist and angler in yakyakistan, quickly becoming invested in improving the fishing industry in the country. however, this work begins to take precedence over canni’s desire to create music, leaving them burnt out and depressed. can opener falls into an isolated and sensitive state of mind, rarely leaving their home and becoming self conscious of their fixations and interests outside of their profession. this spiraling anxiety causes them to become speculative about the opinions other yaks have about them. this only causes them to further isolate themselves, becoming evem lonelier. they reach out to their ex-girlfriend, vylet lulamoon, who advises them to journal their abstract thoughts in a physical way (such as on a typerwiter). through this, canni learns of a strange magic they possess which emanates from them at their most contemplative and spaced out moments. the magic appears in the form of little golden fish that swim around their horn, causing the unicorn’s mane to become weightless, as if floating under the sea. one fateful day, their friend yona encourages them to attend the annual hippogriff cultural festival, an event that is held to celebrate the friendship of yaks and hippogriffs. reluctantly, can opener agrees to go. - “fish whisperer” is about overcoming art block, being transparent about yourself, and learning to find love in every corner of life; becoming saturated in the things you love to do and see. throughout their journey, canni explores their spectral magic, reconnects with the ones they love, and follows the call of a mysterious rainbow fish.

i just want to tell you now that this song has a video how much it means to me. when i first heard CUTIEMARKS i couldn't connect to the more positive songs due to being in a hard place in life, and even envied you for your happiness with those songs, but when Fish Whisperer dropped, i was in a good enough place for good grief! to truly resonate. it led me to go back and relisten to those happier CUTIEMARKS songs, and start to understand how you felt. music is such an important form of self-expression, both for the singer/songwriter and the listener. thank you for always creating such beautiful music, and for sharing your joy with the world in the form of your characters and songs. keep on singing.

this has got to be one of my favorites of the whole album. everything about it makes me smile.

This song is...i don't how to even start. There's something that I noticed in some of your songs, is that some of them always end with the world coming back to our senses, so to say, and that just enhances that kind of moment where everything is being sung in your life and basically be "hardly in control" and have it just happen while you become "a vessel for the emotions" you currently harbor, before then coming back to reality. Which just makes this song even more amazing to me, having that sense of immersion, along with the fact that this album felt like someone coming out of isolation in a very very long while. Really makes me envious that I can't just hop in Mario-64 style and enjoy the soundscape at the end like an actual world. The lyrics and instrumentals just spews pure happiness. Heck, I even feel like I want to run and frolick outside my house just by listening to this song, I felt like I wanna break free from my emotionally-numb cage and really live life to it's fullest (as cheesy as that can sound), be in one of those scenarios where you're running across fields of grass atop the hills without a care in the world. The song is not so high spirited and energized so to say, which is good because I'm more mellow than anything but it's just pure happiness at just the right tempo. This song really made me feel alive the first time hearing it. It has been a very long time since I've heard something that made me really feel alive and it doesn't sound main stream and gets boring after a while. The ukulele and the clapping from 2:13 that gets louder and louder as it goes...like, with a song like this, is there anything else that just makes you want to run in glee? It's like what you said in the description when I'm listening to this song: "this unforgettable wave of bliss and excitement came over me." I've missed the days where i was still stupid but innocent and happy, being able to look at the world more positively with a few nihilistic opinions here and there, but after my depression those moments are becoming scarce and almost non-existant. This song gave me a glimpse of those times, in a very clear and blissful way. A rarity. There are also some points in the song where there are parts from other songs that are used here, giving that bit of continuity that I just love. I'm not sure why besides from the "rewarding the intuitive" reason, but...i guess they're reminders of where you've been. The part where the lyrics said that you're a real musician from of course, "you're not a real musician" and that "every" bit after that from the same title, along with the usual "sing a song about life." I'll never forget the stream where you explained the backstory on that voice bit. One of my first streams on your channel. Loved the GeoGuessr moments. Just...good grief Vylet. All of the songs you've created has been nothing but beyond spectacular, they quite literally saved my life and changed me for the better in some cases. Regardless...i don't know if you'll see this but I'm really glad to be along this journey. It has been...well, a life changer, simply put. A really impactful one. May it never end. This song has slowly risen to be one of my favorite tracks on Fish Whisperer simply because of what it means to me, for me personally, it's the embodiment of that indescribable whimsical feeling that comes from being able to look at the world around you and soak up all the good in your life even after long stretches of depression and hopelessness, It's a striking reminder that maybe everything can be okay even when everyone and everything around you keeps telling you that it cant be tldr, this song has "we are so fucking back" energy and I love it so thank you :)

I do think there are times when you can laugh alone. Will say many strong laughs come from being with others but I have had great laughs alone to myself. Not sure if its a disconnect of feeling each other experiences from feeling things differently or additionally something of perspective. Laughing when excited, laughing at simple out there mistake off you've made, laughing over an great increase in challenge or complexity, or realizing an simple solution for a puzzle that has taken you ages. Part of it likely is I just contemplate a lot (drawing along often) . Also many of my experiences are with games and games are there own way another person to which bring reaction. I might just be too use to being lonely too but I still think I would laugh alone to my mind and self. Laughing at memories is also one though many memories of others. I feel either I'm missing detail, I'm a bit weirder this way, or I taking into deep a detail of your description. Either way pretty neat song. |||||||||||||||||||| (After a re read) Re reading this line "i can’t believe i hadn’t seen it before. the drive to collect, create, love, and wonder is rooted in togetherness." I have felt great joy and happiness via creative action via doodling with others in aggie.io, mods of games, sharing of ideas, & expansion into many great things. One of my favorite things as I experience things is the savoring and appreciation of the details (From depth to neat notices), an effort given. Companionship, exerting ideas to share and make developments of, furthering thoughts from those ideas to more ideas. I feel a bit more satisfied with this development of reading this. Thx for the food for thoughts.
