Hello and welcome to another edition of SUMO PRIME TIME! As we promised in our previous shows, we’ll continue to offer fascinating sumo content throughout August, even though there’s no grand tournament this month. We hope this helps you stay connected to sumo and prepares you for the upcoming tournament in September. As you know, sumo wrestlers train rigorously every day to build their strength. Whether young or veteran, they never skip the three fundamental exercises: shiko, suriashi, and teppo. While these basic workouts can be tedious at times, every wrestler knows that they are essential for becoming a successful rikishi and making it big in the sport. This dedication is similar to what we all face in our daily lives-consistently taking care of the basics is the key to leading a successful life. Check out how these three basic exercises should be performed, and if you’re interested, why not give them a try yourself? These workouts are also known to provide health benefits to ordinary people. Just remember, don't push yourself too hard and risk injury. Thanks for watching, and see you again soon!
Thanks to you all. I've started training with fundamentals, I'm almost 50 years old, I'm late, but I like shiko a lot, I think it is an exercise not only for the body but also for the mind, I feel very relaxed. It's not easy to explane but I can fix the problems I have during the day without any panic, I feel calm after doing shiko. So I'm trying to do it every day. ありがとうございました❗
Hiro-san, thank you for sacrificing yourself so we can learn a couple things. Can you please also share any sumo related volunteering activities that international tourist can contribute to?
@@BladeWalker77 That makes perfect sense to me. If you are just focused on that and letting everything else go, then in essence you are doing a moving meditation. (I teach meditation.) When we have a daily practice of meditation, it chills out the rest of our day. Once someone has had a daily practice for a while, and then misses a day or two, they will immediately notice the difference. I hope you keep on that path. I believe you will see a real difference in your life. 🙏🏻✌🏻
Hiro Morita is the greatest sumo commentator in the world!! Not only does he make accurate analysis of this wonderful sport, but he brings the best by making it accessible & fun for everyone to enjoy! Thank you for your perfect job Hiro-San! & may there be plenty more bashos were your voice animates those bouts with proud !
Ya, and he has a younger son who is doing very well in his final year at Saitama Sakae high school, and represented Japan at the last world championships
Hiro-san, Grand Sumo Legends was super interesting and very well put together. The team who worked on that did such a great job! Looking forward to more!
Making this channel and filling it with all of these kinds of videos, as well as highlight coverage has been one of the best decisions that could have been made in regards to bringing Sumo more worldwide. NHK and the JSA may do things that are harmful to international exposure a lot, but this isn't one of them. Great Work, Morita-san!
Thank you very much! I included shiko into my routine and it improved my lower body strength by a lot! One question though: is shiko done per leg or 1 shiko is done with one leg, then the other? in other words: the rikishi are making 200-300 shiko per day, is it both legs or per leg? Thanks a lot for the awesome content!
I might have my new baseball umpires do these... I just want to see a bunch of guys barefoot sliding their feet holding onto each others butts making laps around the diamond. Very practical to. Thanks for the idea!
I liked the way Chiyonofuji focused on teppo because he thought his shoulders needed to get stronger. Looking at his physique in his prime, it seemed to have helped.
Does searching the whole internet for a stream of the basho because noone provides an official way to watch this sport outside of Japan count as a sumo exercise?
So basically there are lots of rikishi doing shiko wrong when they slide their lifting leg first to shift their weight to the leg they will be put the weight on?... Ex hakuho does shiko like that so was that wrong all these years? How was he so successful if he did shiko wrong???
Why has there been zero punishments for onosato and his stable, my guess is that because they’re Japanese there will be nothing done about it just swept under the rug again
