Ryoko was among the first Judo characters in fighting games, which makes it even more amazing how well her moveset has held up. It's such an robust selection of grabs, sweeps and chokes, most of them authentic, if somewhat exaggerated judo techniques. It's also nice that she's small and nimble, instead of basically Gief in Judogi like Daimon.

@@DragonFetus No, but they're both based on the same person, Judoka Ryoko Tani. She was kicking names and taking asses at the time, so it's not surprising that she would inspire multiple fictional characters at the time.

Mizoguchi's stage has the best soundtrack in this game and it gets amazing when one of the fighters lose 3/4 of their health bar but we cannot listen as he won in an instant.

Ryoko Kano, la primera mujer grappler en juegos de pelea. Ella y Ryoko Izumo (World Heroes) fueron creadas el mismo año, 1993 Fighter's History salió un mes antes que World Heroes 2 Ambas chicas fueron inspiradas en la judoka Ryoko Tani, la famosa campeona olimpica, y en Yawara Inokuma la protagonista del manga YAWARA! Aunque en mi opinion, Ryoko Izumo se parece más a Yawara en cuanto a apariencia. La que diferencia a las dos es que en cuanto a personalidad, Ryoko Izumo es tierna, adorable, inocente y muy femenina mientras que Ryoko Kano es una tomboy bastante ruda. Otra cosa que las diferencia es que Ryoko Kano pelea solamente con tecnicas de judo mientras que Ryoko Izumo pelea usando tecnicas de judo, patadas y otras tecnicas (más probable aprendió esas tecnicas de Lee, personaje de Aggressors of Dark Kombat) Personalmente prefiero la Ryoko de World Heroes. Ojala veamos a ambas Ryokos en una secuela de SNK Heroines

Aunque sea un clon este juego tiene varios personajes interesantes, Yingmie, Lee, Jean, Mitzoguchi, Ryoko, Feylin y muchos más deberían traerlos a KOF, sería interesante un equipo entre Yuri, Ryoko, Athena o Zakura

And she has a very nicely done moveset for such an early game. In 93 the heavy grappler archetype was still very dominant (naturally) and even those og grapplers of both Capcom and Snk had a simple arsenal: Gief had 2 grabs and Hawk had 1. (And Capcom's early grapplers still are simple even in their most recent versions) That "launcher" grab for example, that's a concept that the big companies explored in the late 90s. Those kinds of moves were given to Orochi Yashiro (Kof97) and Hugo (Sf3-2i)...

While a lot of people likes to point and make fun of the game, but some few chars (like her and Karnov himself) have some surprisingly sophisticated gameplay ideas for a 93 release. I just wish SF2 had such kind of advanced ideas - which then this "pure ripoff" game would have copied...

Gracias a este video descubri sobre este juego y la franquicia Fighter's History. Jugue el primer Fighter's History con Ryoko y si bien fue complicado pero al menos me diverti. Luego jugue el Fighter's History Dynamite/Karnov's Revenge con Ryoko....y aun no pude vencer ese maldito juego! 😢😭 No he tenido NADA de diversion con ese juego. Ya de por si es MUCHO más rapido y dificil que el original FH, a eso hay que agregarle que Ryoko por lejos la PEOR personaje del roster 😣 Jugar con ella es un martirio... Y tal parece que ella sigue siendo pesima en Fighter's History Mizoguchi Kiki Ippatsu!! Mi consejo para los que quieran jugar el Karnov's Revenge/Fighter's History Dynamite. *NO EMPIECEN CON RYOKO!*

Será que esse foi o primeiro jogo de luta que trouxe golpes de agarrão que emendam nos combos? O que depois virou uma marca forte de Kof, no quesito de golpes especiais. Porque a maioria dos jogos projeta agarrões como SF2, inclusive os outros jogos da Snk (não lembro agora como é em Last Blade).

Erm, no. This Ryoko, much like the Ryoko in world heroes is based on a real person, (Ryoko Tani), which is a famous judoka in japan. Another fun fact is that Ryoko Tani received the nickname Yawara-chan thanks to her similarities with Yawara Inokuma, the main character from the manga Yawara!, and both VG counterparts have also been designed after the manga character.

Eh, not really. The keikogi, a standard uniform for most modern japanese martial arts (Gendai Budo) is hardly a very unique costume choice for a fighting game character to wear, and is also far more associated with Judo (the founder of Judo, Jigoro Kano in fact developed the keikogi), it was only later adopted for Karate by Gichin Funakoshi. Her throws are also actual Judo techniques (Yama Arashi, Kata Guruma, Ippon Seoi Nage), and are also quite different from Zangief's in gameplay terms too.
