I know, it can be both, though. Pretty sure they called her that because her name has "Aka" in it as well.

@@UshodaSubs Her aka-chan also has a slight meaning of baby. Her speech sounds a bit childish, so we use it as a nickname that is reminiscent of akachan (baby) and akari in Japan.However, aka-chan would certainly be appropriate if expressed in English.

That's true, I put a TL note the first time his name showed up. And I intentionally used Bodo instead of Vod because I already put the TL note. But yeah maybe I should've used Vodka instead, my bad.
