The Wilhelm Gustloff is also known as the deadliest ship disaster in maritime history which happened around on January 30, 1945 and about 9,000 people were killed during that disaster
@@coinster2763 The Dona Paz took 4,386 lives where as the Wilhelm Gustloff took about 9,000 lives. if you compare the two you'll see that the estimate of 9,000 is much larger than the Dona Paz death toll by 4,614 lives
the titanic was the biggest ship in her time, and while she wasn't as famous as the olympic, she was still a big deal, and for her to sink on her maiden voyage was a huge deal. Another part of it was how long it took to sink, there were many different stories and pieces. On the other hand, the wilhelm gustloff, isnt talked about at all in places like central europe and russia because ww2 is a sensitive topic. but yes, this def needs more recognition
Such a tragic maritime disaster. It was an evacuee transport ship with thousands of children onboard and some of the captains saved themselves before many of their passengers.
it was awesome did you hear them all screaming much better the titanic they all were so much quieter then this which makes this so much more entertaining then that movie🤣🤣🤣
@@carlg.7882 yeah but they used a whole lot more screaming then in Titanic they dialed it up to eleven with the screaming and how much faster the water rushes in to makes it better and more epic a tale of death and tragedy
Wilhelm Gustoff not only acted as a mobile hospital but at the moment of attack was transporting uboat crews. Civilian lives lost are a tragic collateral, but this was the reality of war. And it was not the confusion with nav lights that doomed them. Soviet submarine’s captain surfaced and turned the lights on, approaching Gustoff from shore side pretending to be a patrol boat.
This makes me sad. If I remember correctly, the captain was told to keep the lights off. If he had listened, this situation may have had a different result.
The accompanying U boat captain said stay in shallow water and turn all lights off. The captain chose to go into deeper water and turned on the green and red running lights to avoid a collision with other ships, which led to the soviet sub seeing and torpedoing them
In reality the scene was probably worst than this. They show people helping each other get on the life boats and people trying to swim to safety. In reality the water was so cold that it is unlikely that anyone who went in to the water survived. Even if you were pulled out you would still freeze to death as all your clothes would be wet and all the life boats were full anyway.
She was. However, she never really had a chance to be one given that war broke out not long after she entered service. The Wilhelm Gustloff had various roles throughout the war, such as being used to house U-boat crews, as well as being a hospital ship. Before you ask, the Wilhelm Gustloff had been repainted prior to her final voyage. So, there was no hospital markings on her
In this FRG propaganda film, it is pretended that the shooting down of the Wilhelm Gustloff was an accident, but - although it was a civilian ship - it was fired! That was just one of many war crimes of the Allies! Even if the Western Allies have committed more crimes than the Soviets. Especially the Americans and British (as they always do) had a lot of fun killing women and children, bombing hospitals and schools, preferably with phosphorus bombs, etc. As an American or British, I would still be ashamed in two hundred years!
If we the civilians carried the shameful actions of our governments on our backs not even god could keep the weight from breaking them. To say the civilians should be ashamed is moronic. Have more sense
I’m not ashamed for what my great grandfather did as I’m not involved in what happened. You can acknowledge it was bad, but the worst advice is to make yourself feel bad for something you never did. By that logic Japan should be wallowing in self pity
@@bikesrcool_1958 But the western world, under the dictates of the USA and Great Britain, is committing terrible crimes in the world right now! And that's shameful!
@@jeriemayignacio1758 the night was freezing and the sea water too... If you fell in the water you would have just 2 minutes to come out before death by body freezing
Então estamos diante do naufrágio com maior número de vítimas da história? Vc podia fazer um documentário detalhado sobre esse navio. Com os conhecimentos que tem iria ficar show.
@@blablahguy the ship was built when germany was getting its ass kicked so they built the ship to retreat from the german mainland to argentina but it got sunk by a soviet submarine
Jesus esta voltando, preguem o evangelho crendo nele como seu unico e suficiente salvador,o tempo esta proximo, temos que estar preparados pra esse dia,o Rei dos Reis esta voltando ❤
Unfortunately, the ship was outfitted with anti-aircraft guns and was also transporting a lot of able-bodied soldiers and officers at the time. The attackers didn't know it was full of refugees, but despite that, the fact that it had guns and was transporting soldiers and officers put it in a different category than simply a hospital ship.

Why it so many ppl dead? Here the water it cold -18 c and thw weather cold it 10- C so many ppl dead by that but low dead it by torpedo and why the ship turn light off bc the third torpedo hit the main boiled room
firstly: like only 2 or 3 lifeboats were able to lower to the water secondly: the sinking was much faster than the titanic. people who were sleeping, even if they woke up in the torpedo, would probably be confused or tired, so they might stay in their room thirdly: panic was much worse in this ship because firstly everyone was already traumatized from the war, scared that if they get there most of them get sent to war (people between 16-20 went to war i guess), and panicking because most people are pessimists and we know it fourthly: most of the people got stuck inside glasses, and you might have seen that the glass in this war ship is all bulletproof glass fiftly: the ship was banking, and since the ship was more crowded, it was much easier to slip and fall in the water, and because of panic, much people lost a lot of stamina, causing them to be too weak to swim.
It scares me so much the kids who never saw thier parents again and the parents who never saw thier parents again it makes me so scared that I was gonna cry
Uma pergunta que não quer calar: Porque esse navio que foi atingido por três torpedos, levou quase cerca de 50 minutos para afundar ? e o Lusitânia atingido somente por um toroedo, afundou apenas em 18 minutos ?
@@MassimoCalderaro-u8h cannons? You do know that the term cannons is generally referred to the guns that pirate ships had, right? Look. This video may not show it, but in real life, the Gustloff was indeed armed
@@MassimoCalderaro-u8h OK. It is just a little confusing because when I talk with people who are or have served in a navy, they always say guns, not cannons
Titanic who?? Titanic way overrated . People should really forge the Titanic and its stupid fake love story and actually focus on important things like casualties not romance and fantasies ..
@@GraysonPalmer-kd5xm the thing is that people care more about the titanic than this ship where over 9,000 died. I know there we're nazis on the ship but most of them were refugees who just tried escape the war
@@gambleaway8252 Hey pal!👋👋, listen friendo, when I saw your comment, I immediately started violently touching myself, hope I can touch you next. Over and out!😳
Unfortunately, even if he had seen that it was a cruise ship, it would not have mattered. All available German ships, including passenger ships, were commandeered by the navy to move civilians, military personnel and military equipment. By doing that, all ships became fair game
While the movie may be fake as most are both sinkings were very real and very tragic. And while it is messed up the world lost so many in both ships sinking
