Little sad that this only really came up because of Kono Oto Tomare since it is a genuinely great piece. That said, I can honestly say this was not at all the sort of piece I was envisioning. If anything it sort of feels like what I expected Tomfoolery to sound like. So much of this piece felt unsettling, such as the spots were the bass koto stayed on a single note, or the seemingly random and loud flourishes sprinkled throughout. That said at least Imo of the piece itself it was almost like the flute kept trying to reel everyone else in, and while there seemed to be a genuine clash in portions, the spot in the middle where everyone is in balance was truly beautiful. 'Course I could be completely mistaken and it's a piece about acorns turning into oaks or such, but I am truly looking forward to hearing how this piece in interpreted in the series, especially considering that there wont be a flute and that this song seems to be about twice as long as the time limit the participants have at nationals.
This is not sad. This is good. Long before only few people even knew about Koto (especially foreigners) but because of Kono Oto Tomare, a lot of people learned to appreciate koto and even go as far as search about the actual pieces 🧡 this is a very good news. Don't be sad
