The IWannaBeTheGuy fan in me makes me want someone paste over "YOU JUMPED INTO A SWORD DUMBASS" bit from that game over the HD remaster version of this scene.
This part of the remaster goes against Kira's character arc at this part of the story where he feels guilt about the people he's had to kill because he did so purposefully. In the remastered scene it makes Nicol's death seem like an accident to imply that it wasn't really Kira's fault. And now Nicol just somehow misses an attack that he clearly meant to hit and just walks into the sword. The thing is the Strike's movements can still count as dodging the Blitz's attack, but he changes his grip from the center to the right side. Kira could have moved the sword to the left side to avoid killing Nicol, but he changes his grip to the right side, and Nicol just runs into it. I don't see what the point of making the changes to this scene were. If anything it just makes Nicol look like an idiot who has horrible piloting skills instead of an attempt to make his death look like it wasn't really Kira's fault.
To be fair to Kira, he still wasn’t a true ace Gundam pilot at that point (at least compared to his later self within SEED), so his clumsiness in the remaster might be more excusable. You could also make the argument that keeping his sword on that right side might’ve been more practical at the moment; even if Nicol had avoided literally walking into that sword here, he would’ve still likely tried to keep on killing Kira. Having that sword kept on the right side and with that stance would’ve at least given Kira a better chance of defending himself that way.
It's more meaningful if Kira kills Nicol with a counterattack. In the original, the death makes things personal for Athrun, and leads into the climactic battle. In the remake, it just makes Nicol look like a blundering idiot, and Athrun look like he got caught up in the heat of the moment and blamed Kira for something that clearly wasn't the latter's fault.
yeah like cagalli said it was stupid that's why she calls them an idiot but shes not any better is she kira tries to save everyone but hes not superman hes still only human
They tried to make Kira less "guilty" but they made Nicol look like a dumbass. Original was so much better. Nicol died like a soldier fallen in battle, while in remastered he died like an idiot.
Original: Han, I mean Kira swings first. HD Remaster: Greedo, I mean Nicol swings first. Given Fukuda's love for Star Wars, looks like he's become Gundam's version of George Lucas.
Seed: the OT (Kira, Cagalli and Athrun being Luke, Leia and Han) Destiny: the Prequels (Shinn, Athrun and Gilbert being Anakin, Obi-Wan and Palpatine) The Remaster: the Special Edition Will GS Freedom be the Disney Trollogy then?
@@JimHawkwind03411 I thought Kira could be the Kylo, since they're saying "someone please stop Kira" Anyways I doubt there will be a clear Disney Trollogy parallel since GSF was being outlined since long before these movies were made
Does anyone realize the hd version of this scene makes nicol look like an idiot? It seems like he walked RIGHT into kira's beam sword. In the original version, it looked like kira, out of instinct to protect his own life, DIRECTED his beam sword into nicol. It seems like this was changed to make kira more ''innocent'', to make him appear less guilty of nicol's murder and that it was all accidental. Now nicol seems like an idiot, good job hd version!
The problem is that it's a lame attempt at making Kira look blameless (especially after he's already put down so many people). Remember Marco Morassim? And the fact that they change the scene in so it makes it look like Nichol's fault for being gung-ho, but they do a really poor job of doing it, so it just comes off ham-handed. I just really hope they don't do it anymore.
