Quite an eclectic bunjingi. Beautiful any way. Neat working. And a cute precious future bonsai master as attendant.

I understand you know what you are doing for so many years, but how can it live with you cutting off at least 75% of the roots. I would only think 33 or 50 % to make sure it survives. Steve.

Climate and tree condition are very important indicators for cutting off many roots. First of all, the tree is fine. If you're not feeling well, you don't have to force the roots off. Next, the time. It is done at a time when root growth can be expected even if a lot of roots are cut. In Japan, it is from March to early April. It depends on the climate of each country, so don't overdo it. I think it's a good idea to gain experience and see how much you can cut the roots. Growth is slow in cold regions, so you don't need to cut this far. On the other hand, in hot areas, if you don't cut the roots more often, it will grow steadily. This is how well you can control tree growth in our area. The distance between the buds will be shorter, and you will be able to make a tree like a big tree even if it is small. It's a technique for tightening trees. Enjoy Bonsai!

Someone could please tell me what was the black soil he put on top of the Akadama on the very end?

Thank you for watching. Black sand is one of the most popular bonsai soils in Japan. It is made of Mt. Fuji lava called "Fujizuna". It is also contained in the soil inside, but the one on the surface is for makeup.
