The temple was founded by Shubi monk in the 33rd year of Kangxi (1694). Since the end of the 17th generation of Zen clan passed down by the monk of the tree wall, the original monk management system has been replaced by the management committee system, but the Buddhist Linji authentic monk has still been hired as the abbot and temple mage. The current chairman of the Supervisory Board of Beigang Chaotian Palace, a management consortium, is Cai Yingqi.
The temple was listed as a second-class monument in 1985 and restructured into a national monument in 1997.
