At 11.00 there's an interesting Rugby section and an application of redirection of force. Rugby involves human collisions as one player tries to get the ball past the opposition player, so the comparison is perhaps not as applicable as combat. You've put your finger on an important point. Learning humility and respect for elders is a part of the self-improvement aspect of traditional martial arts. Unfortunately, this has the side effect of masters becoming over confident in their abilities and consequently getting punched out by MMA guys. The paradox for TMA is how to retain the self improvement aspects while objectively testing your abilities without degenerating into a mere self defense course. MMA is good for fighting, but it neglects the self improvement and manners. It is a difficult balance.
