Such an interesting video! Thank you :-) I am assuming that this is Riki wanting to play with Cheria, and Jully, her surrogate mum, monitoring things. Little Cheria looks like she's gaining confidence and also wants to play.
Ceria has certainly put a strain on the family dynamics here at the 7 minute mark where she was standing on Rikis head and then got excited throwing everyone off balance and poor Riki was on the bottom of the mess. It was chaos for a few seconds but it was Caria that set it off. She is adjusting like everyone else here. I loved it when Riki was playing sock puppet with her trying to lure her away. Lol! Many say that Riki is a bad influence here but he is key in helping Ceria to become an orangutang. These are apes and only an ape can teach another ape to be an ape. They learn by observing each other with exacting precision. Don't get them mixed up with human traits because they have 97.6 % of the same genes as us humans. That remaining 2.4% may be a universe away.
@rob peters I totally agree with your comments on these issues but unfortunately it would appear that it has fallen on static brain cells . No matter how much you try to tell people on here that do not get it or refuse to except that things are not always nice and neat as they would have it in there tidy little politically correct world.
Kiki is never going to get the mother of the year award ever for raising Riki or lack of. She did nothing but bring Riki into this world. She was too young to be bred in the first place not to mention that she was more than likely forcefully mated by her reactions to the male that is at this zoo. She hates him with a passion. Riki has more love for gypsy and even valentine. Ceira is a messed up case because this zoo did everything wrong with her by humanizing her. Riki is just wanting to play with her and she doesn't know how to play. Riki is crucial for her to learn how to be an orangutang. It's going to be tough in the beginning but she will learn.
Rob- Do you know if there is a video I can find of Kiki interacting with the male you are talking about? I think his name is actually "Borneo," and i'm pretty sure he fathered both Riki and Loki. I have seen others commenting about how much Kiki is terrified of him, but I couldn't find any footage of them together.
