Their job was to bring up the possibility that it could happen in order to raise doubts in the minds of the jury. Based on the benefit-of-the-doubt principle, they hoped to sway a few jurors (especially those anti-death penalty people) in their favor, and avoided the electric chair/lethal injection for their client.
精神病, low IQ, abused spouse, or terrible childhood are all included in every 辯護律師's bag of tricks. A defense lawyer should be sued for malpractice if (s)he doesn't pull at least one of these excuses in Court.
@@Kuma_Priceless If I were her lawyer, I would also claim she had a terrible childhood, e.g. being bullied as a kid, and was also abused by her spouse after marriage.
