津波の被害を受けた陸前高田市(震災翌日 : 朝7時ごろ)
津波によって、家やビルのほとんどが破壊され、以前の街の姿を想像することすら難しい。
360度見渡すかぎりのがれきの山。
家があったはずの場所は、基礎だけが残っている。
横向きに倒れた家。押しつぶされたような家。倒壊したおびただしい数の家屋。
校舎の入り口に突っ込んでいる車も見える（市立高田小学校）。
スタッフが、がれきの中をかき分けながら進んでいく。
消防隊員に救助された市役所の職員たちが、危険ながれきの上を歩いていた。
今にも崩れ落ちそうな建物の屋上には、取り残された人たちが救助を求めている。
津波に耐えたビル。その屋上から顔を出す流木は、高さ2階建てのビルを優に超えていたことがわかる。

Rikuzentakata city suffering damages by tsunami. (Day of the earthquake, around 7 a.m.) Most houses and buildings are destroyed by the tsunami, and even trying to imagine what the city looked like before is proving difficult. Piles of debris fill the view 360 degrees. Where houses used to be, there are only foundations. There are innumerable houses that have collapsed, some that fell sideways and some that were squashed. There is a car that crashed into the entrance of Takada Municipal elementary school. Staff make their way pushing their way through debris. Employees of the city office are walking over the dangerous debris, having been rescued by firemen. On top of the building that looks ready to collapse are those people left behind looking for help. Although the building withstood the tsunami, the driftwood sticks out from its rooftop, implying its existence that stands higher than the two story building.
