Thank you Coco and Yannis for the informtion! In my opinion, sending Margaret to private swim lessons are way too expensive and not justified, unless you want her to become a competitive swimmer and aiming for the Olympics! Pretty sure there are inexpensive government run swim lessons (and other programs) that you could send Margaret to learn a few things about swimming and other sports and interests.

Hi! Coco you are right the Chinese Supermarket are more expensive then other local supermarket. The biggest culprit among the lot are Wing Yip. Next time when you visit them keep your eyes on their price all their price are not inclusive of VAT. Normal supermarket mark price are inclusive of VAT but with this supermarket they add the VAT when you check out. One example is you can buy a bottle of Chinese cooking wine in Sainsbury for £6.50 inclusive of tax. The same wine from WP are mark as £6.50 but when check out they added the 20% on top. I do hope you bring this to our Hong Kong people.

A small caveat that these are London prices but then again the cost of living is going up 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s a great overview of the monthly spend. It is possible to live on a smaller budget 🙂 - the biggest financial commitment is the rent, fuel and car so optimising that would be a huge help

在香港讀國際學校很普遍，一樣要去很多生日會，自己又要搞生日會(有時請小丑來表演、租埸地和佈置、公主蛋糕及party food 、party bags, etc) $$$。家長WhatsApp group夾$$送禮給班主任，酒店連spa package…etc.

其實同香港比一啲都唔貴，香港買餸食大6嘢就平，我盡量揀外國肉及食品，就2個人買餸最少都要6、7千蚊，但外出食飯應該會多些選擇，可以食車仔麵，但如果選食貴野，可以平均每人一餐千幾二千蚊，都係貴呀！

I live in Scotland and for groceries shopping I buy the basics and fresh food from Aldi or Lidl weekly, and topped up by going to a main supermarket once or twice a month. I only order Chinese groceries from Wa Na Hong online maybe once every two months as a treat :)

Kids should have no more of these event expenses once in primary school and secondary school -- our 2 children (now graduated from medical schools) paid about £10 voluntary contribution a year but no school fees, no more books purchase and no stationery cost any more ;)

Great breakdown Janice! In Sweden I think its similar prices for family with kids. Depending if you are renting or own a house, commute with car or not, eat at home or out, pets or not can differ each family economical situation. Common is that raising a kid or pet takes 1MSEK per kid until they are 18, pet maybe less depending on life length and vet visits/sickness. About parent groups arranging gatherings and parties, depending on kids age, the gifts don't need to exceed the £10-20 range. As they grown and interest shifts. If you have time to make own cake or bake together with the kids, can be fun activity on a party. About groceries also go once a week to bigger marts to get food for a week. Asian Market also very expensive as all imported foods these days.

I think the commute expenses should also include car depreciation and repairs, and public transport. I think 4000 pound a month would be. More realistic.

其實回想自己的子女小時候，各家長的父母也替孩子攪生日會，有些在麥當勞、有些在某些主題餐廳、有些在會所…….！回想都好開心！孩子成長期出席過的生日會都很令人懷念。有時我在想，究竟那些已經沒有聯絡的父母及孩子在那裏呢？

My saver way is to get all shopping member card benefits eg. Club card, Sainsburys etc. their points to cash or their special offer. AA membership to eat out discount. And some cash back membership also is the tricks

其實使費都算合理你哋生活質素係一切如常都幾好只不過而家你哋要租屋多咗租金支出但係遲啲如果你有自己屋住唔使再交租咁一個月嘅使費就會去返£1800左右都好合理而且都係普通人可以搵到嘅收入應付到簡單啲講就係解決咗住屋嘅問題之後生活費其實就已經一定可以解決到 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

其實我覺得吾貴，外國生活是這樣，我們一家3口在多倫多生㓉，也需要Hk$40000一年，只是basic開資，還未計買薬，洗牙，娛樂費和shopping,旅行等。呀仔這两年入大學，要交大學學费和宿舍，真係好多錢使呀！

其實香港仲貴。。。我地一家3口加工人，飲食(雜費廁紙牙膏沖涼。。。。）費用8千幾，1星期1次湯1轉糖水。未計有時出去食豪d個個月就過萬！

seems like British costs of living still a bit cheaper than CA, our car full coverage for two cars is US$1800 per year, US$1 million house if property tax 1.25% ( ration depends on location) every year property tax will be US$12,500 ( 10390.33 pounds), way too much, anyway that's just some of it, don't even mention SF costs of living, by the way, loves to watch you guys all the time and loves to watch Margaret eats.

I chose not to go US becoz of the high cost of living, not even mention the medical insurance and the crime rate now. CA da best is weather only. Sorry to say , us is declining in every aspect.
