Baroque flute meets classical ancient Chinese music.
妆台秋思 (Zhuang Tai Qiu Si) loosely translated as "Autumn yearning by the dresser" is actually a "movement" taken from a larger pipa (the 4 string lute you see being played in this video) piece called 塞上曲 (Sai Shang Qu) loosely translated as "Tune from beyond the frontier." Although originally meant for the pipa, just this section of the larger Sai Shang Qu piece has been played and made popular by many different traditional Chinese instruments like the Xiao (end blown Chinese bamboo flute), Guzheng (Chinese zither), and Dizi (transverse blown Chinese bamboo flute). Knowing that this piece has been played on many different types of instruments successfully is what led me to try playing this piece on the Baroque flute and I believe as with the Xiao, Dizi, Gushing etc... this piece works rather well on the Baroque Flute!
Instruments:
Baroque flute: Wenner IH Rottenburgh copy in A=415
Pipa: Rosewood pipa by Cao Weidong
