Bodai-ji Temple was founded in the year 862 by the priest Jikaku Daishi Ennin as a place to study Tendai Sect asceticism.
It is believed that this is a place where dead spirits of the Osorezan mountain gather. It is also famous for the summoning of a female priest named "Itako".
Mt.Osore contains a beautiful lake called Lake Usori.
