hes not underrated which he has got best male singer award in taiwan few yeas ago. all u can say is hes not that lucky these years, but nobody will deny his talent with no doubt.
He is not underrated. The entertainment industry is fickle, not loyal to the music. With new people coming into the business, it has the "responsibility" to promote, but often way too many and unnecessarily. Gary remains one of the Best! Always!!

I don't understand the language but his singing is so powerful and full of emotion, it kept me captivated. An amazing range of notes and his expressions while singing shows it comes from his heart.
As an ex-Malaysian, I am embarrassed to say that I don't really know who Gary Cao was before. He amazed me in "I am Singer". Really well done, Gary Cao. The duet between him and Wei Wei was really surprisingly good, and of course including all others. Thank you 中国湖南卫视官方频道 China HuNanTV Official Channel for putting up such a good show. Miaotianzi Jin Unfortunately, some overseas ex.Malaysian Chinese like me(or perhaps your Singaporean friend) who has migrated to overseas for a more than 10-15 years would have lost touch with the Asian culture or music. Hence, even Gary or JJ (or even Fish Leong梁静茹) who debuted and has become famous around 5-10 years old, we would not have known them well as we would have been exposed to more Western music. We occasionally heard of them thru our friends when we go back to Malaysia for holiday, but would not have known them well. But glad that they are doing well in overseas now. Proud of them. Especially Malaysian Chinese, we are(were) always under racial discrimination by the stupid Malay dominated and corrupted government(BN), we could not excel in our own country but in others.
He is a talented singer. I'm sure u guys knows Stephane sun? She is Singaporean singer. She is C-pop queen. She is in a very high position. There are a lot of Chinese singer and C-pop been neglected. Show Luo, Jolin Cai, Rainie Yang, Wang Li Hom... Etc

I have to admit I'm not very fond of him at all, but his rendition of 'Saving All My Love for You' is probably one of the best one especially one sung by a Chinese singer. I get very picky when Chinese singer sings English songs, and they don't really get the pronunciation right. He did great not just the pronunciation but the singing too. I'm very surprised that he even chose this songs. That was an excellent performance.
+holohulolo I agree with you. Normally I can't stand some Chinese singer who tries to sing English songs because of their pronunciation. Whereas for him, he sang it extremely well!
I really enjoy songwriters sing their own song, a world of differences, I can hear real talent instead of suffring through shouting and crazy exaggeratings
