起源は13世紀頃。芭蕉糸を、琉球藍、テカチなどの植物染料で染め、手投杼を用いて織る。軽くさらりとした肌ざわりは南国の着物として最適で、古くから現地の人たちに愛されている。
This fabric originated around the 13th century. Fibers of the ito basho were spun and woven. This fiber is harder than that of hemp, so the finished cloth has more texture. Because it was very sleek and airy, this fabric was appreciated for summertime garments since the early days.

@@prizmarvalschi1319 yes, abaca ikat weaving only exists in the Philippines. The oldest artifact of it is the Banton cloth dating from the 12th century. You can still see its dye even though it was buried in the soil for centuries. Salinta Monon was one of the last abaca weavers of the Philippines but her children and descendants still keep the tradition alive. In fact, Okinawan banana fiber weavers have come to the Philippines to also learn how we do it. A lot of the laborers of the Japanese Abaca plantations in Davao of the 1930's were actually Okinawan.

Go find The Association of Pole Turners and Green Woodworkers. They have lots of folks doing and teaching traditional English woodland crafts. Also, the Mastercrafts series with Monty Don would be of interest to you I think.

We now have banana fibre to spin with in the UK and it is wonderful. I did not know it was used as a medicine. It deserves more research and use. Thank you for sharing this information with us. The entire process is fascinating and the work that goes into making this cloth is amazing. But then the Japanese are known for their meticulous attention to detail and their incredible work ethic.

Incredible!! Surprising this fabric originated during 13th century. I like to learn more more. Such a smart and good way to utilize Banana fibre - a true gift from the nature. I really love to visit this place and get more knowledge about this. I cant wait to visit this place. Lots to learn from Japanese culture. 💚❤

The amount of plastic used in binding the post-winding fibers makes this completely non-organic. Not a pure natural product🤦‍♂️
@ShadowPoet
@ShadowPoet 3 года назад
The product is natural... Bananas on large plantations can't be grown organically they require pesticides and fungicides. You mean to say the manufacturing process isn't environmentally friendly/green (that's only if you assume those bindings were in fact, plastic.... and not knowing if they're made from recycled materials).
